No, that's not what I meant.

If someone with a 1200 SAT, 2.0 GPA and no EC's whatsoever wants to go to an Ivy, wouldn't you tell him to be realistic?

I must agree with tetrisfan on this. If you really don't have the scores than writing a mind blowing essay or your luck isn't going to help you at the Ivies. If a low everything applicant wants to apply to an Ivy fine go ahead. But make sure you have solid college list to back up your dreams.

Thanks 0739085,
Thank god I am not a person with 1200 SAT and 2.0 GPA. = )

Exactly my point Ajay, thanks for backing me up.

@Paddy: Yes, thank god you aren't! :)

Anytime tetrisfan :)

reading from your message I don't think Ivies suitable for you.
most of the top Uni focus on competition, success as the only index of achievement. as a parent I will prefer to recommend to my son to apply for colleges.there you have tons of oppertunity to broaden your mind, train your
ability to think critically, to read/write effectively, to express yourself overally. you will have much chance to receive personal attention. you will also have chance to stand out by your unique Chinese background. the graduation path will be much more diversified. too many options will be waiting for you.
