Please help me ... as my school counselor doesn't know much about US education and I can't afford expensive private counselors.

How can I improve my chances … Will a great essay and a proper explanation of my family circumstances … help …

How can I show to these colleges that I have the potential but due to adverse conditions I couldn’t perform that well in my High School …

Past mistakes shouldn’t ruin ones future …Isn’t it … How to tell this to the college Admission committee

Even my School teacher’s are ready to testify that … I was one of the brightest boys of my school …only that I didn’t get a proper environment to study … and I lost interest in my studies due to my ever increasing family problems…

All of them are reaches do to your grades and few EC
A great essay and recs could be good but I’m not sure that it will be good enough because you are an international (who needs aid?).

There are other very good schools in the US other than the Ivies that you might get into with your profile though.

But … I was checking some other college websites … and I find that my GPA won’t that bad … because 75% and above from India is equivalent to A in USA ( As per SUNY - Buffalo, NCAA International Students admission guidelines, University of Illinois, University of Northern Iowa, Purdue University… and few more )

those schools don’t care about just grades and test scores. you also have to have stellar extracurricular activities and essays.
