@keyboard18, no, I don’t have a problem with grouping schools together by some qualifier. I have a problem with perpetuating (intentionally or not) the notion that the ivy league schools are hands down the 8 best schools in the country and everything else is a step down.
@keyboard18: Isn’t it just as easy – and a good deal more accurate – to utilize a term such as “top National Research Universities,” rather than “Ivy League” (and then erroneously including institutions such as MIT, Northwestern, Stanford, Chicago, Duke, CalTech, etc.)?
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
OK, “Ivy” encompasses the 8 schools in the Ivy League. We get it. Point made. Let’s move on please and only be concerned with answering the original post, specifically:

That question was answered with the first reply though
Ok… thanks for all those who replied to my question.
So, will having some kind of national recognition compensate for lack of leadership?
If you read the message boards here under the accepted threads kids with EITHER have been accepted. Plus I know Stanford said they look for a different mix of students every year so someone who got in this year wouldn’t get in with the same record next year.
@PassionatePoet Not exactly, they do not really compensate for one another, but they complement each other. It is best to have achievements and have leadership experience, but overdosing on one will not forgive having zero for the other.

Nailed it.
Hi guys… I have gotten published in many literary magazines, including the Stanford review. Now I am trying for more prestigious ones, like the Harvard and Yale review. Will getting published in these significantly help compensate for my gaping lack of, say, sports or science awards?
Your blind need for prestige is mind numbing.
ps. The above listed are all equally prestigious, but of course you wouldn’t recognize anything less than Ivy as such.
@phospholipase is developing a reputation for trimming the fat from items.
@justonedad, liking your comment wasn’t enough. Brilliant.
@rubberfall Sorry for the late response to your comment. I did not mean that Harvard is more prestigious that Stanford - I believe they are both equally brilliant. I was referring solely to the magazine, not the college- Harvard and Yale magazines are ranked higher than the others (you can find this in rankings of literary journals). However, I find all three wonderful.
(Oh and I actually didn’t get for Stanford Review, it was a mistake on my part to post that)
