Ivy League Bound?

I know and thats why Im not focusing only on Harvard and Yale but you cant compare the level of education that you may get from one of these universities but if I want the BEST academic quality whu not aim high and go for one of the Ivy's?

i believe this may be the link to which spidey girl refers. If not, this seem to be something that may interest you. Good luck. http://www.leadnational.org/sbis2.html

Oh thanks! it sounds amazing and it would really help me improve my chances for business programs in college. So I'll find out more about it and give it a try. Thank you again.

Because no one said the Ivies have the BEST academic quality? Who said so? Ivies give you an invitation to the special 'club' and connections to certain jobs/internships. To think that they automatically have such superior academic quality over everyone else is naive. There isnt that much of a difference in terms of teaching quality in the top 50 or so.

^I agree with loslobos71... Kinda ignorant to automatically assume ivies have the best level of education, because it's not true

Ivy Leagues have some of the best professors in not only the country but the world, the teachers that are the top in their field and I'm not the only one that says that, it's a known fact. Their research and work in their field contributes to the textbooks that other colleges use, so you cant say that they're not some of the best teachers around. So I'm not just assuming it, because if they are teaching the top scholars around they will be the top teachers or pretty close. And yeah sometimes being insanely smart doesnt mean they'll know how to teach well, but the Ivy's have a repuation and they're not going to have mediocre teachers preparing their students. Ivy's are Ivy's for a reason.

Hi Maria -

I sent you an Email with a lot of other ideas based on your interests (things similiar to Lead - it was too long to post and to message).

While your GPA is fantastic (btw, how did you get a 4.0 if you got a B?), your PSAT scores are, ah, lacking >.>; With a 100 pt boost from 1 year passing, and another 100 pts from studying, you're still only 1940, or even with +200 from studying, 2040 is still a tad low, but your URM status would probably make up for that a bit.

"I don't know about H but Y doesn't have minors, Maria."

Starting this past fall, something called "secondary fields" were introduced at Harvard, which is essentially equivalent to minors at other colleges.

Because they needed a sports league?

This depends a lot on the field though. Like for engineering, MIT, Stanford, and UC Berkley are a lot better than Harvard or Yale.

Everyone is so down on the ivies either because they have no shot, missed their shot already, and/or are insanely jealous of people attending such schools. People apply to Ivies because they want to go to one of the best schools in the country. Fit isn't an exact science, because if you're truly interested in something you can pursue that passion anywhere in the country. Good Luck and whatever happens just work hard, work smart.

if you get 1300/1600 or above i think you have a shot at all the ivys. this is based on what ive seen happen to ppl i know.

Ivy league = sports league

And a pretty bad one at it :)

I just don't get the fascination with these places, shiesh hahaha. Most people don't even know what the ivy league schools are other than HYP.

Oh, and ivy leagues are like the lottery. There's not "ivy bound"

honestly, i don't see you getting into HYPS, just based on what i know about my friends who got in...just because nothing jumps off the page for me in your application. and, of course, your scores don't really compensate (they are GOOD but not in the top 1-2%)

Hey! Omega! Dont hate on Penn ;) Theyre pretty good at basketball and football :)

i don't know about other people but atleast for me, the PSAT was in no way an indicator of what i was going to get on the SAT. i only got a 205 on the PSAT and then got a 2200 on the SAT.
PSAT-Math 76, Reading 60, Writing 69
SAT-Math 750, Reading 720 (Biggest Surprise), Writing 720
And i didn't study for the SAT at all. Don't listen to these people that are saying you don't have a chance at upper ivies. you do.

^ Your SAT score is supposed to increase by around 100 pts just by having a year pass, a 150 pt increase doesn't mean that it wasn't reasonably accurate.

perhaps. well i know some URM's that have gotten into HYPS w/ less than a 2100 so there's hope for her.

A decent proportion (maybe around 45%...I'm just throwing a number out there) of URM's get into HYPS with <2100, but not with <1900. I think she really needs to hit 1900 to be in play for HYPS. Radron, if the OP gets a 2400 or even higher than 2300, tell me with a straight face she isn't Ivy bound.

Also, what's with all this hating on the Ivies? They are great schools and offer you great educational possiblities. (As do MANY other schools-don't get me wrong) They have the prestige, which is, whether or not you believe so, important and they can offer many connections.
