hi. would ivy league colleges, especially yale, look at a student has only taken 2 aps by the end of his junior year? i know They say to take as much APs as possible but what if the junior had the opportunity to take 3 aps and only took 2? does it even make that big of a difference?

p.s. for everyone who is going to an ivy league college, how many APs have you taken by the end of your junior year?

my child had 5 APs after junior year and is now a freshman at Yale. I think you should take the opportunity to challenge yourself with as many AP's as you can handle. There is no set forumla on exactly how many are required for Ivy admissions-they are looking for a student who has challenged themself academically, but someone who also has a life and has accomplished things in other arenas as well.

You won't be punished if your school only offers 3 and you took 2 of them. That's 2/3s of all the APs you could have taken! My school offeres around 9 total and I've taken 4 at the end of junior year and will take 2 more. The only Ivy I plan to apply to is Dartmouth, though.

2/3 does not look bad. my school offers a total of 13 APs? or 12, i'm not exactly sure, but of the 12/13, 3 of them are foreign lang, and no one takes more than one ap foreign lang in my school, so the MAX that one could take is 10/11. but due to schedule conflicts (only one class for each AP), the most that anyone has ever taken in the history of my high school is 4 a year. just try to take as many APs as possible your senior year.
