Hello! What are the best EC’s to have for an Ivy League? I am not into sports but I did play Varsity soccer and JV Volleyball my Freshman year. I will be a Junior next year-- should I take JV volleyball back up or play Varsity Golf?? I want to know which would look better. I have other EC’s that I invest most of my time in
Don’t do anything for the sake of admissions. Do what you enjoy and are good at. Don’t try to fit yourself to a school, find a school that fits you.
Leadership, leadership, leadership. Ivies and other top-tier schools love to hear about times you’ve taken leadership in activities–be it president of a club, or even something like a counselor at a summer camp.
As for the sports, which one do you like more? You don’t have to be on a varsity team if that’s not what you love…it’ll be more fun and an all around better experience if you choose the sport you like the most.
No EC (unless perhaps you are a recruited athlete) is the “best” for an Ivy (or any other) school. Do what you care about and let that passion shine through in your application.
The pattern I have seen on CC and in real life with my peers is that people who try to fit their resume to get into an Ivy League don’t succeed. Rather, Ivy Leagues search out the applicants who are pursuing their passions in meaningful ways.
I don’t think anything you pick up as a junior shows any real commitment or passion. If your school had you playing varsity as a freshman your school probably isn’t’ that jockish, so why did you drop either sport?
You’re not into sports means that you probably won’t do well. Pick something you’re really into, much better path, as the other posters have already mentioned.
I didn’t like it.
BTW, as in a tight race getting into top schools the interview can push you over the top. Last year my Ds friend had a fantastic interview with her interviewer at her first choice college. The same can be said for my daughter this year with her interview, neither of them had any hooks, but both the interviewers went out of there way to support them. Having said that interviewers also have a good idea if there school is really your first choice. Harvard and UChicago were he two colleges.
@CU123 Am I garenteed an interview
@collegecurious49 No one is guaranteed an interview.
