<p>I am looking for someone who is an experienced writer or English major and knowledgeable about the Ivies to read one of my essays and give me a brief but brutally honest impression. I am not sure if I want to use it as my Yale Supplement Essay or Common App essay, and I want to see if someone who doesn't know me can hear my voice as well as make sure that it is not too cliched.</p>

<p>If you want someone “knowledgeable,” skip relying on other hs kids. The main thing to remember is that these essays are not like hs assignments, where you are meant to think and write well, on whatever topic. Instead, you want to show the college-relevant personal strengths and qualities that adcoms seek. Remember, a large part is what you “show, not tell.”</p>
