I am a junior and I’m looking into applying to Ivy League schools next year. I just wanted to know if a 2130 (690CR, 730M, 710W) on the SAT is enough for Ivy League. I know that there are a lot of other factors involved, but do you guys think I should re-take it?
I really don’t have the time, I’m doing the IB diploma and several extracurricular activities and I also am studying for my Subject Tests. Do you guys know many people who got into Ivy League with scores below 2200? Also, if I get good scores on my Subjects Tests, does that help?
My weighted GPA is pretty high. It’s a 98.8/100, but I don’t know what it is in a 4.0 scale.
Keep in my that I am an international student and I am a Latino, does that change anything? Thanks.
Your SAT will not, by itself, keep you out anywhere, but for Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and even Columbia, it’s on the low side. For the other Ivies, it’s either or a little below average. If you can improve your SAT score, it will help your application. If you look at the results threads floating around, you’ll see some folks get into the Ivies with SATs under 2200, but that better scores correlate more highly with acceptance. Outstanding scores on the subject tests certainly help. Merely good scores, not as much.
Like most folks, your chances of being admitted to an Ivy are low. But with the information that you’ve presented, it’s far from unimaginable.
I hope you don’t apply to Ivy leagues for prestige. They are not cookie cutter elite schools, but have their own unique vibes.
Do you need financial aid? That makes a huge difference in Columbia, Upenn, and Brown.
