<p>Ok. After I watched the "New Detectives" on the Discovery Channel which had an episode about two teens murdering Dartmouth faculties, I'm sort of freaked. I know it was an off-campus murder in 2001 but it does get me concerned. Is it safe there?

<p>That was both a freak incident and, as you note, well away from campus. Dartmouth is one of the safest schools imaginable. I often walk along the river or through campus in the early morning (midnight-two am) and have never felt unsafe.</p>

any sort of crime non-drinking related is for the most part non-existent</p>

<p>hanover is a small and close knit town surrounded by forrest...not much room for murder.</p>
<p>The reason that story became so large is precisely because it happened in a place where you would never think it possible to happen. Yes, Hanover is safe. But why would you even ask here? Go look up crime statistics per capita for Hanover, and then for New Haven.</p>

<p>from my time at hanover, only one "crime" remains in my memory..... two folks were walking down a street at night, this random dude comes up, bikes the guy's cheek, and bounces.</p>
<p>outside all the negative stuff that surrounds frats, i'd say that's about the hardcorest crime i've seen.</p>
<p>that, and apparently one of the pizza delivery guys from C&A's is a registered sexual offender</p>
<p>earlier this term, one construction worker unaffiliated with dartmouth in hanover hit another constuction worker unaffiliated with dartmouth in head, and the 2nd man died.</p>
<p>it was on the front page of the D as the first homicide in Hanover in 5 years (since that case you read about)</p>
<p>Dartmouth is very very safe. </p>
