Ivy League Possibility

Okay, I know that getting into any Ivy League school is extremely difficult. I just want to know if I have a chance at getting in.

Academically: Academically, I'm one of the strongest students in my graduating class. I am either valedictorian or salutatorian. That's really not saying much though, considering that my class size is 135. My GPA is estimated to be a 105.089 by the time I graduate (weighted). I have yet to take the SAT or ACT since I am a sophomore but I did score a 198 on the PSAT. I am Hispanic so I am fluent in Spanish.

I will attempt to take some other college classes during the summer, but living in a small town limits the variety of courses I can take. I'm not going to take advanced welding if I'm majoring in Biology.

Extracurriculars: I'd like to say that I'm a well rounded student. I play varsity tennis starting this year as a sophomore. I'm in band and have made the all state band once already this year as a sophomore. I'm participate in UIL. I'm in the musical this year. I will join HOSA, WIT, Interact, and SADD next year. I will also start to mentor little kids.

I don't know. Is this enough? I know that because of the fact that I can't have free periods as a Junior I have to take fluff classes that are worth no honors credit that will probably lower my GPA. I will most likely graduate number two in my class.

Is this enough to at least have a shot at making it into an Ivy League school? I want to major in Biology and minor in Music. What can I do to become a better student?

Thank you.

Considering the small town you live in, you’re pretty limited academically as far as class choice. Considering this, you’ll have to shoot for the stars as far as ec’s.
Keep up the varsity tennis and band. I like the clubs you’re joining, but try not to spread yourself too thin. Maybe choose a couple that you could become an officer in, and that will look much more impressive than simply being a member of a wide variety of clubs.
Lastly, get the highest score you can on the SAT, this is extremely important considering your (sorry, it’s true) weak course load. Take the ACT as well, you never know which one you’ll do better on.
Good luck! It’s all a big game with the Ivies, don’t be discouraged if you don’t make it in. There’s plenty of great schools out there with smaller names but great educations.

Yeah, I know. Living in a small town sucks. I will try to add Intro to Humanities and College Physics to my course list, which are both college credits. I know that my course load sucks and there is really little I can do about it. I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing and who knows? Anything can happen.

If you are majoring in Bio, why aren’t you taking AP Bio or a college course in Bio?

Because my school does not offer it. I’m taking all the available AP and Dual Credit courses available at the moment.
