what should my SAT score goal be to get into a top ivy league, assuming I get the achievements mentioned next year, and assuming without?
Regardless, you want an SAT score that won’t pull you down – shoot for at least a 750 on each section. A little variance won’t hurt you, but this should be the goal.
The admission rates are about 6% for these schools. Most applicants have superior stats and EC’s and essays. What is there about you that would put you in the lucky 6%. What makes you exceptional??
@TomSrOfBoston the 6% number is highly misleading. While many schools do have that acceptance rate, a lot of applicants are just fluff, they don’t anything close to the required requirements. That drastically helps kids like myself, who are good students, have much better chances than the “6%”. As long as you fall within the desired range of GPAs and SATs, it eventually comes down to ECs, and I would assume being a top state-ranked debater and musician would drastically improve my chances, would it not?
Aim for a 1500+ on the new SAT, but do realize that test score isn’t the only thing that gets factored into your application. Students with 2200s get accepted to Harvard, while others with 2400s get rejected. That being said, a low score could hurt you, but a good score isn’t going to propel you toward admission either.
Being a state ranked debater would help but I would not say drastically. Do not assume that the higher the test s core, the stronger the admission chances. If you go to a large public high school without a track record of students being admitted to Ivy League schools it will take a very high UW GPA (3.9 or higher), very strong test scores (34 or higher ACT, 2200 or higher SAT) and something that differentiates you from several thousand equally gifted students. The level of ECs many admitted students have is sometimes hard to believe - internships, successful nonprofit creation, summer college classes. And multiple years of impressive ECs
Nah, bro. In response the original question, I’d say as high as you can get it without your other stuff suffering. You’ve got an excellent GPA thing going on.
