Ivy League SAT Scores?

You can get a perfect score on the test and get into an Ivy, or you get a perfect score and be rejected. What matters is finding the right school for you. If you have to get every SAT prep book and a tutor to even make you competitive at such schools, how are you going to manage when you start your freshman year (assuming you get in)? Find a school that’s a good match for you based on your academics. While some schools might not have the Ivy reputation, that’s not all that matters. You can get a quality education from so many schools, so don’t put blinders on and narrow your list to only Ivies. Take your SATs (preferably without tutoring) and see what you get. If your scores are lower than you’d like, get a book and do practice, but at least have a baseline of what you can do on your own.

thank you guys so much! @allison1225 @waitwhaat @gormar099 I will take your advice to heart. Your help is greatly appreciated

I heard someone who got 1500/2400 got accepted to Columbia university this year as an early decision applicant. What is this case? They sometimes select those who have very low scores and I wonder why and how they select those students???

@beaglee105 I mean, it’s a holistic application. This person might be severely socioeconomically disadvantaged, might be an incredible athlete, might have mentors/contacts in Columbia who matter. There is honestly no way for you or I to know what was in that application, especially when it comes to things like recommendations and the like.

My general two cents however, many of these students that are accepted to highly competitive schools but have academic records comparatively weak to that of the average student drop out or do not successfully obtain a degree. I’ve seen this problem in many universities and it is not exclusive to the ivy leagues. There are an endless amount of ways or reasons that a student is accepted to whatever university they end up matriculating to, but this does not guarantee a stellar performance once there.

If you get less than 2100 your will be 20%; however if you get 2400 your chances will be around 80%.

@paulinho I think what you mean is if you get 2100 or lower you have an 80% chance of your application getting thrown out immediately, and if you get a 2400 you have an 80% of your application not getting thrown out immediately. 2400 does NOT give you an 80% of getting into ivys. Mountains of 2400 SAT and 36 ACT kids get rejected from Ivys every year.

thanks!
