Ivy League Swimming (Womens)

Thanks for the article and the info.
Excuse me being ignorant and somewhat oblivious, but why do the Ivies limit the number of recruited swimmers? The Ivies don’t hand out athletic scholarships and swimming isn’t a sport like football or lacrosse that only have a certain number of open slots per position each year… By looking at each of the Ivy League rosters, there were only about 7-11 swimmers, recruits and walkons, for each grade. Why is that? Couldn’t they choose to recruit more, say 11-15 athletes, if they wanted to?

Bc the “Congrats” email is a very very very big prize. When Harvard turns down 94.1% of its applicants, each recruit has to be worth it both in terms of the team and to the make up of the Class as a whole.

I have felt that as financial aid packages have improved considerably in the past decade or so, the lure of an athletic scholarship becomes reduced and so those who might otherwise never consider an Ivy now can, and do, consider those colleges. Same with NESCAC–but to a lesser extent.
