<p>I was actually seconding this thread because I wanted to hear some stats of past successful ivy-transfers, but in the way this thread went I suppose I will post my hopeful stat chances.</p>

<p>Rice doesn't like admitting students from schools in Houston, and Harvard is Harvard. He would have had a better chance at both schools if he did what he did at UT–Austin.</p>
<p>Nspeds..Why would you say that I have a very small chance at both Rice and Harvard?
The post is for Ivy's and I added the Rice in even though it’s not an ivy. I understand that getting into H is tough as a statistical %. However, people do get in and they don't all have perfect 4.0's, 2400 SAT's, EC's and so on. As a transfer student once yourself, you know that schools don't give transfer applicants interviews, or at least these two don’t. So, that makes it more subjective in the processing. Having spoken with several admissions officers (clearly not as many as you, I suspect), I found a common denominator amongst all. That is simply at the end of the day they ask themselves; Is this applicant qualified, Will he/she be an asset to the school, Does he or she fit on balance to the whole.
Now having said that there will always be special circumstances and or gaps to fill.
So at the end of the day one can negatively site the statistics or one can look for that common denominator. The latter is something that unless you are an admissions officer at the particular institution in question, you are merely an outsider looking in.
While I am not kidding myself that Harvard may not be in my cards this year because I really don't have enough for them to go on. I only went to high school two years, and I only have 1 semester of grades in college. But on balance, I think at the end of the day the concentration that I am interested in, my focus, which hopefully will shine through in my essay, just might be enough to do it. If so, you would probably think of me as a statistical anomaly.
I have a suggestion, if someone has the base profile in terms of the subjective stuff, GPA, SAT’s, EC’s then why don’t you congratulate them on their accomplishments, remind them of the statistics, focus them on the intangibles like essays, and finally wish them well.
One final note, you seem to really dislike the University of Houston. Granted, it is not the best in some areas, but it is also not the worst. If I have learned anything so far, it is what you make of yourself that matters, and I put learning in that breath.
One final, final note. I am female, not male, and a science major. I believe the last I heard, Harvard had a sign posted as a result of President Summer, “Apply Within”.
Thanks for your advice though.</p>
<p>webmanstuna i'd like to find out too!! hahah so anyone who actually transferred to an ivy, please please post your stats</p>

<p>...and as Harvard states clearly on their website: the number of qualified applicants well exceeds the number of available spots.</p>

<p>Statistical anomalies are, by definition, a rarety. So it would be rational of me to assume you will be rejected, unless the rare occurs. </p>

<p>Not once did I say that you will be rejected, and I did not berate your accomplishments. While it is naturally assumed that I wish everyone well on this forum, especially in their academic pursuits, I believe that given the likelihood of your being rejected, you might have a better chance of getting in a better school if you applied to more places.</p>
<p>nspeds.
No, Harvard does not give transfer applicants interviews. It is on their website. If they have some question they will contact the applicant.
Your next two responses are correct, although I am not sure what the intent is other than to make comment. Clearly, it is not within the framework of my dialogue. Your comment that you have nothing against the U of H I don't accept, but that's my feeling. While you did not come out and say I would be rejected, by your inference you did.</p>
<p>different_steps, there were several threads last year on this forum started by Harvard transfer applicants who said they were offered interviews. If you are applying to Harvard it would be helpful for you to look at past threads to learn more about the application process.</p>
<p>As the H site says, "The Office of Transfer Admissions does not ordinarily schedule personal interviews. If the Committee needs further information, you will be contacted."</p>
<p>If you call and inquire about an interview you will be told that they do not "offer" interviews to transfer applicants.</p>

<p>That was not logically implied by my statements.</p>
<p>By the way, several of the transfers I know at Harvard had interviews. They do not automatically give you an interview by virtue of your being an applicant, but they definitely do interviews for some applicants, the reasons for which I am unaware.</p>
