Ivy League vs BS/MD Program vs State School Honors

Is it worth going to an ivy league school such as brown over a straight bs/md program. i would be paying full price at brown but probably get scholarships at a straight program. the straight program isn't a high caliber one such as northwestern however. more like union/albany or vcu. or is it better to take the normal undergrad route at a state school for a cheap price but in the honors college so everything is separate?

It really is a matter of personal and financial preference when considering Ivy vs State Honors. I would try to get into everywhere and, after touring, decide based on your choices and financial package.

As far as going to a BS/MD program vs normal route, once again its a personal and financial preference. I’m personally a skeptic of the whole BS/MD program, because the large majority of the students either withdraw because they don’t want to be doctors anymore or because they want to take their chances and apply for a more prestigious medical school. The rule of thumb is that if you can get into a BS/MD program you can probably get into medical school four years later so long as you don’t majorly screw up in college.

Union/Albany to my knowledge is not known to be generous with scholarships. You would likely have to pay as much for Union and Albany as Brown.

thanks that helps a lot … anyone else have any opinions? any students in either type of program want to comment and help me out? it would be appreciated!

VCU is very expensive for med school if you are OOS
