I'm a California resident (low-income family). However, I'd pay LESS at Ivies than at UCs (about $6-10k less per year).

I couldn't have imagined myself in any other place but Cal since I was a kid, but that was because I never expected that I could get into an Ivy.

Some of my stats:
4.0 unweighted GPA (school does not weight GPA)
2200 SAT
33 ACT

Looking for a school with a fun social scene and not too "crazy hard"/competitive academics. I'm a pretty chill guy. (Oh and I'm Asian--if that's something to consider.)

Thanks!

PS: I haven't visited any other East Coast schools other than Princeton (my brother went there) and Columbia, so I don't exactly know how the academic environment is at Brown/Cornell.

I've visited Berkeley & UCLA--I liked both, but didn't exactly "fall in love" with the campuses.

Just parental opinion. My son has similar stats and is deciding between Cornell/ Notre Dame and some full tuition local colleges. He has similars stats so Congrats!!! We live in NY and love Cornell- we visited over the last summer…I would suggest you come out and visit both Brown and Cornell, Brown is a smaller university but still a great school. It also depends on your major. I would research where you may concentrate and see of Cornell, Brown or the CALI schools are strong in these areas. But of course if you would love to stay in Cali then follow your heart too. Ivies are less money??? then I say it is worth the visit.

I’m leaning towards Brown right now, but I find it really hard to say “no” to Berkeley. Cornell is amazing but I’m scared at the thought of Ithaca winters (lol).

I hope I can visit the East Coast schools. Thank you for your advice.

@myboby123 Berkeley admits by college, as I know. College of Letters & Science, Math major. I’m very grateful that I got accepted to Berkeley even though I got in as a Spring admit, but yes I feel that it will be a disadvantage.

@barrk123 I’m leaning towards Brown or Cornell, but going to the Northeast is scary. I know nobody in that region. Also, my mom “babies” me, she wants me to stay close to home. Thanks for the advice btw
