Ivy League Worth it?

Hey,

Im pretty new to College confidential (and I've been spending a lot of useless time on it recently), and its kinda depressing to see so many crazy ass kids haha- this brings me to the question-
Is Ivy League worth it? I've always thought its just been hype and (unless you're a true genius) people's gpas get screwed by the really competive environment (especially if you're thinking about going to medical/graduate/law school). Is that true too (that's just been what I've thought- yet so many people want to apply and dedicate their lives to it...)
Would an Liberal Arts College be a better path for medical/graduate/law school? and its (difficulty/ learning environment/ etc) ?

Just would like some insight and ponder on the idea of the "Ivy league".
Thanks!

Some people say that by going to an Ivy League, one can make important "connections". Also, if you want to enter into an Ivy League graduate school (med school, law, business, etc.), it can help to go to an Ivy League for undergraduate as well (I think I read somewhere that about half of the accepted applicants for either Harvard Med school or Law school were from Harvard).

That being said, one can get a perfectly good education at pretty much any other university in the US -for a much lower price.

For me i think college is supposed to be an experience... I want to go to a place where i can meet all kinds of people. where there are people of speak 8 languages, where i can walk down a hall and say hey to a musical prodigy, an accomplished opera singer, a snake charmer,...not to mention the ridiculously knowledgeable professors...all in all an ivy education is really about the opportunity to get a superb education ...if you put the work in there is so much more that an ivy can help you accomplish. The competition may be steeper but in the end it is just preparing you for the successful path that you so obviously want to reach...

doesn't that go for any private college?

stacey_ga, my high school is kinda like that. eveyryone around you is crazy at something. for me...a perfectionist, it always gives me fear and stress. i always end up envying them and not being grateful. it's hard though...when everyone around you is stellar. it raises your expectations

so it is or isn't? haha.

:] Hey welcome SonyVaio! To some people it's worth it. :]]]

what are your thoughts/ experiences?

I feel those who succeed beyond graduating from an Ivy are those who have that constant drive and use their minds, voice and instinct to take control of their careers, not those who wave the Yale diploma in an interviewer's face and think gimme gimme gimme. With that said, for the person who opens their mouth and takes positive risks it is very worth it because he has ambition from within. If you're going to be the type that thinks everything is set with an acceptance and just cruise through the 4 years thinking you have a slot ready for law school I'd don't think you'll be as successful. You can get into any graduate school from any undergraduate college of your choice. If you achieve your goals by having a place making it "easier" or "help" you on your way I really don't think you deserve it at all.
