My goal is to get to an ivy league school. I have very solid extra curriculars, national recognition and a 2250 SAT score. I am an Asian living in the Midwest. I think my application is pretty good except my GPA. My weighted GPA is good but I have an unweighted of 3.87 and I have 3 B pluses. I am going to apply to Cornell early apps. Do you think I have a chance with my B pluses since I am an Asian living in the Midwest?

Your SAT scores are okay, though not fantastic. Your GPA is a bit on the low side, so hopefully you made that up in passionate extracurriculars. Speaking of ECs, do you mind elaborating more on them? You say they are “solid,” but it is hard to say what that means. Do you have a laundry list of impressive clubs or even positions, or have you invested actual passion in them? Colleges can tell. What about your recommendations and essays?

Overall, we cannot possibly know. There is always luck involved when applying to Ivy Leagues, and on top of that we have no way of seeing your actual application. You may have a chance, so definitely apply if you think those schools best suit you! Once you have done so, remember – you can do (almost) no more; it is out of your hands, as long as you continue getting good grades and whatnot. Good luck! =)

I don’t have my EC list on me but do you know if it’s still possible to make Cornell early apps with three B pluses? What would be a good SAT score (I still have time to work on that). Thanks!
