Ivy League

Hello, i am currently a sophmore in high school. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if i have a good chance of getting into an Ivy league school.

Here is my profile:

Transcript Grades-

Honors math II- 3.00

I transferred to a different school this year. I currently go to a private school that does not offer any ap or honor classes. It’s a Jewish high school, and its one of the best private schools in my state. I am also currently taking 7 Jewish classes, and i have a 4.00. The grading system at my school is different from my old school. A 4.00 is 100, and 3.9 is 99-98 percent. At my old school anything above a 90 was considered a 4.00. It is harder to get good grades at my school.

I moved from Israel 3 years ago. I am an Israeli, and I am Jewish.
I speak 3 languages Russian, Hebrew and English, and I am currently studying Spanish.

I am taking the SATS next year and i hoping to get a 1350 or above.

Columbia is my dream school, and i want to major in political science.
Do you think i have the chance to get in?

With a good SAT score (1950+) and a killer essay.. yes

You're on the right track. Just maintain a good gpa and rank, and EC's and you will have a good chance. BTW, CU is a very liberal school.

Be warned that no one knows how Columbia makes their decisions- It seems like they are pulling names out of a hat, because often people who get into HYPS are rejected or waitlisted at Columbia

For the ivies? Probably higher than 1950

If you get 700+ on each section, you will have a very strong application

Remember that nobody has a "good" chance at the Ivies. Brand-name conscious drives high school seniors towards a very few schools. For everyone accepted, they reject four or five applicants who are practically identical except for the name on the application. It is said that if an Ivy threw out everybody they accepted and waitlisted and started over again with the remainder, that the result would be statistically identical to what they got the first time through.

The Ivy League was originally a football league. The college in the Ivy League are not very similar. The only thing they really have in common is the prestige factor. Decide what kind of school you want: urban/rural/suburban, public/private, university/LAC, large/small/midsize. Do you care about having a Division 1 team on campus? Do you care about the political climate or how important Greeks are on campus? Decide what you want, and then apply to a range of schools including any Ivies that fit the kind of school that you want.

you are a sophomore, stop worrying about it and focus on actually enjoying high school and finding something you are really passionate about. From my experience, those who focus too much on making a perfect college app are often the ones who dont find success in admissions, and those who just focus on achieving in general and doing what they like have suprising success, even if their stats aren't stellar.
