Hey guys! Hows it going? So here is my problem. After rigorous review and watching helpful videos, I thought that I was ready for the NYS regents but after taking it I have failed the Trigonometry regents and now I have serious doubts that I passed the Physics regents I was wondering if there was any way of canceling my score or keeping colleges from knowing that I took it, like with AP exams? I want to do this because I heard that if you fail and retake it, both scores will still be on the transcript. I didn't need to take the Physics or Trigonometry regents anyway being as I had previously taken and passed all of my required regents. I just wanted to get an advanced regents diploma (which I still dont understand the benefits of). I feel so stupid for taking it not considering that if I fail, I will look stupid when colleges see my transcript (especially since I passed the classes). Most of my friends were too scared to take them and they told me why I would even consider taking it. I mean I could always go to a college out of state where the regents wouldn't be considered....right? Do colleges here in N.Y. even take regents that seriously? I fear of losing my Advanced Regents Diploma. If I pass one of them but fail the other will I still get the diploma? If I do fail both regents, I don't know if I should retake it for the sake of my Advanced Regents Diploma and how I will look when colleges see my transcript. I plan on going to medical school and becoming a Neurosurgeon or an Orthopedic Surgeon (seems laughable, but a kid can dream can't they?) I was inspired to do this since I was very young, as I found out that medical problems with the brain seem to exist in my family claiming the lives of a lot of loved ones. Ever since, I felt helpless knowing there was nothing I could do and I want to help others with problems like this (all people in general). I go to a trades and technical school in which I major in Bio-chemistry (I'm a junior...who scored a 1490 on SAT but plans on retaking it). I know you're not a guidance counselor, but I thought maybe you guys would have some advice? Oh! Sorry about this but here's a side question....as of right now I was told that my GPA is a 95 but I did bad this year as a Junior and last year as a sophomore (although not as bad as this year). I know once my grades this year are averaged in, that GPA might drop to an eighty-ish. I have taken AP Global History last year, got a 2 on the AP exam ( really bad I know), passed the class, and got a 98-100 on the regents. This year I took AP US History( got a 99 on regents) and AP English ( I dont know what I got on the AP exams for the classes yet), and I plan on doing extra curriculars this summer (as I have in previous years but not nearly as much as I would like) and taking AP Chemistry, AP Calculus (one of my friends is taking AP Calculus and AP Statistics next year...can you believe that!?), and maybe AP Comparative Government next year (Senior Year). I plan on working hard to boost that GPA as a senior. I know that colleges, after they accept you...can reject you if you do bad as a senior, but what if you actually improve as a senior....what then? Do you think I'm worthy of an Ivy League school/ Medical School despite the amount of competition these days? I mean I guess I will retake those two regents...but I dont think colleges or universities out of NY will even know of or consider the regents right? People always say that Ivy Leagues like applications that show you stand out and that its not just about the grades. Ok, so how can people like me do this? Not everyone can invent some revolutionizing, innovative product. I mean, I heard being a first generation helps. Also, does it really matter what you do in the last quarter of senior year/ summer of senior year? I heard also that Ivy Leagues are not worth it, causing prolonged debt and that you can get the same education and more academic support at other colleges/universities. Do you guys have any regrets about high school? Really sorry about the length of this message and thanks, it means a lot! I plan on taking SAT prep courses, but a lot of people are saying it is not worth it? Please refrain from any negative (unless it is constructive criticism), smart aleck like comments. Have a nice day!
