Ivy + Minority Status

Which Ivy or Ivies does minority status weigh the most heavily?

You know, I actually wondered about that for a while..

But I thought that each college has a non-discrimination policy, no?

I have a minority status as well, so I'd love to hear responses concerning this issue.

Yale by far. Out of 437 blacks that applied in 2003, 393 were accepted. out of 412 hispanics that applied, 371 got accepted. out of 3,089 asians that applied, 2,780 were accepted. This is all accoring to the colleboard book on ivies.

wow im glad to hear that about yale. id looove to go to yale.

Que dijiste? 371 de 412? Madre de dios!

This is for real? Would they be more selective this year? Or are they taking URMs to inflate their numbers? Was there a GPA average for each group?

How well were these Hispanics score? I'm Hispanic!!! :-D I only have a 29 ACT score :-(

Where did you get those statistics on Yale? I have trouble believing that.

My good friend and salutatorian last year (Cuban), had a 1400 SAT, 4.0 Unweighted GPA, full IB Diploma (toughest classes in all areas), National Hispanic Scholar, sports (lettered in softball i think), clubs, etc. etc. A Fantastic candidate is what I'm trying to tell you, and she didn't get in. I would say she's in the top 10% of hispanic applicants. She was flat out rejected.

bump. other opinions?

I have trouble believing the Asian part.

so 90% of Hispanics that apply get in ? I find that WAY TOO HARD to believe.

agree with arti

these numbers seem bogus. how could 2780 asians get in? Yale's freshman class is about half that size, and I doubt that about 3/4s of the asian students who get into Yale decide not to enroll.

Calcboy, which collegeboard book are you referencing???

CalculusBoy, i know that your numbers are inaccurate b/c you are saying that Yale admitted more than 3500 minorities in 2003. This is impossible to believe b/c in 2003 they only admitted 2,134 students total (including whites)...

my info was taken from: http://www.yaledailynews.com/article.asp?AID=1715

pay attention to the first line of the second paragraph:

[quote]
Of the 2,134 students admitted to the Class of 2003, 65.2 percent accepted Yale's offer of admission.
