Ivy SAT Score

What do you think is the absolute minimum SAT cutoff for an Ivy?

2100?

ABSOLUTE minimum?-2000

Reasonable minimum-2100

But there are probably always a few kids every year that get accepted to Cornell or Brown with a 1950ish score. Keep in mind there are always exceptions, and there are no 'real' cutoff's. But in general, yeah.

If you're applying mainly on an academic basis, meaning you don't have any major hooks, then 2200 seems like a good number.

it depends on how many millions of dollars your parents contributed to the college

I really wonder how common is that? people donating cash to the college? I mean what is the procedure? do they bribe the commitee people or do it all legitimately? to be honest, I always thought that it would make more sense for such people to find out who the admission directors are and slip them $100000....

you'd want around 2200 with a decent amount of ecs....

"2200"? That's harsh but is probably true for the best of the best universities.

What would you say about a minimum ACT score then?

I think 2200 might be the minimum for average or slightly above average chances, but I think the minimum for any real chance at all would be around a 2100, and you'd really have an extremely small chance of getting accepted with anything below 2000, unless of course the money factor comes in to play, or you're a recruited athlete.

For ACT, I'd say 30.

Perhaps I'm naive but I find it hard to believe that HYSM would accept someone unqualified just because they're good throwing a ball.

^Well the SAT isn't exactly going to qualify you. They might have slightly below SATs, but their grades may qualify them, especially if they're good at "throwing a ball".

You would be very surprised at how easily "throwing a ball" can get you into an Ivy, especially if it's a football or a basketball.

This thread is due for an update, but see

for how the numbers work. Every college needs to fill up its freshman class.

Dartmouth's mean is ~2200 this year, which obviously means that half the matriculants scored below 2200. But, note, ~33% of the matriculants earned a 770 CR on SAT, so play the game accordingly.

Id say 2100

I have a question about that list....for JHU it says 2110; however, when I spoke to one of their admissions officers, he said that they did not look at the writing section of the test for admissions (at least for this upcoming year, so maybe it was different for past years). So, does JHU still record the score and just doesn't use it for admission? Is this common amongst schools that say that the don't look at writing? Thanks
