Ivy Scholars at Yale University

iveyyoung, I am flying 22 hours with 4 different flights to get to New Haven from Southeastern Europe, so Beijing doesn’t even seem that far. :D

I am doing the Global Leaders, too…I saw some people asking.

Anyone up for a facebook group? :D

for international like europe and canada, we dont need to send in $50?? correct? just making sure

Absoultely! For students who live outside of USA do notneedto pay so, I do not pay 50 dollars and got the offer still.

Is it bad that I haven’t sent my stuff yet? I’m probably gonna send it in the next few days… BTW, I’m going for the Grand Strategy one, so I’m kinda nervous, especially since it seems like so many people have already gotten acceptances, so scraping the deadline seems like it’ll screw me over. Also, for sponsors, is that different from the recommendations, since there’s only a spot for the name of one sponsor?

@RobertD1 The sponsor is different, yes. I put my counselor down as sponsor and two teachers down for recs.

hey guys, filling out my application here
for the personal statement, do you devote like a paragraph to each question or how did you all format yours?

like.

 1. ablahskdgh
 2. balskhdkls
 3. asadlfskh

etc?

That’s what I did. :)

yea i also devoted a paragraph to each question with a little intro and conclusion. When i was accepted I also received an e-mail that said global leaders had few remaining spots and they were all going to rising seniors. Idk about grand strategy.

mate…~30-35 hours to get to New Haven. Beat that! =P lol

i’m pretty sure the admission would be competitive or atleast somewhat competitive, since almost all spots are taken in the global leaders program and the grand strategy program is VERY popular, not sure about the hertog program though since it is new

i think the organizers themselves will make the fb page, i remember reading something about that in the prospectus :)

yeah, just put your easy heart into the essays. I worte 5 pages, no format, and just show myself then I got in

I am likely to reject the offer, because financial matters, need 1000 dollars…
good luck to the incoming students!

Hey everyone,

Another question here…does anyone know if the May 3rd deadline is the postmarked date, or the date that the application must be received by?

idk if it’s the same or not, but i did the early deadline which was march 2nd( i think… i dont remember) and i turned it in on that day. i got in to GL…so i think may 3rd is probably the postmarked date…but the earlier the better!!

You should have your app in by the deadline, not just postmarked by then. The app package says that apps “received” after the deadline will be processed on a space available basis.

There’s a Facebook group up for anyone going to Ivy Scholars 2011- just search Yale Ivy Scholars 2011. It’ll be good to get to know anyone else who’s going, whatever program their doing.

Hey,

So i just got my acceptance into the Yale Ivy Scholars Program. The dilemma I face is that I have been accepted into both the Global Leaders program and the Hertog Program in American Politics. I was wondering what you guys thought of which program is better in general, which one would be more of an experience, and which one would look better/more prestigious on a college application.

I am a rising senior, if that makes a difference. I kinda don’t want to be in a program with rising sophomores (Global Leaders) because I want to be challenged by those who are academically my equals. Furthermore, I don’t really want to be in a program with ~100 other kids (Global Leaders). In that regard, Hertog is better. However, Hertog has its own problems as well.

I was wondering what you guys thought on the issue. I know that these are new programs offered by Yale Ivy Scholars. However, any information that may guide me in the right direction is welcomed.

Lebron123

i was faced with the same dilemma, i was accepted into both the hertog program and the global leaders program…ended up accepting the global leaders program offer

realistically…ask yourself what you would rather do? if your heart and soul is into learning about the united nations and world issues and want to improve some writing skills…go for global leaders hands down!..if ur interested in politics and philosophy, hertog is the way to go.

I don’t think that there are only sophomores in global leaders btw. lol…all programs WILL be challenging and most/all kids will be very academically capable, so i wouldn’t worry about that too much. 100 kids…well yes that does sound like a lot, but you got to remember you would have quite a number of international kids present which could improve the whole experience and class discussion standards, making it much more challenging and interesting.

yup these sure are new programs, but you should expect them to become increasingly popular over the years, just like the grand strategy program.

your choice, weigh up the options…and choose wisely! :)

good luck!

Received acceptance notification for Hertog on Wednesday. Let me know if you’re going! :)

I’m coming over from the UK to do the Hertog program. To LeBron123, it is merely a case of deciding what interests you more, international relations andd world politics, or political principles and philosophy. No doubt either program will be beneficial and challenging, just ask yourself which one you think you’d enjoy more.

So many ppl doing GL and Hertog, is anybody else doing GS?
