Hey guys. I got into the Ivy Scholars Program as well, and am wondering if anyone would be interested in starting a facebook group for people who were accepted. I think it would be cool if we could get to know each other a little bit before the summer.

Note: there is a general Ivy Scholars group already, but I mean making one for 2009.

that’d be nice

that would be legit

sweet, I just friend requested someone who I’m pretty sure is one of you from the general ivy scholars group. you will know it’s me if there is a guy in a suit standing in the left of the profile picture.

all right, i made the group. search for “Yale Ivy Scholars Program 2009” and join!

thanks for the group

Depends on the caliber of student you are at the camp. They do rank students on what they call the “Christmas tree”.

I got into Yale early, and I know that the director of ISP played a role in it; he shared his evaluation of me with the admissions office (his office is right across from theirs).

His stats: “We are doing even better than last year (we had 11 Ivy Scholars matriculate to
Yale this fall with two early admits) with four early admits so far with a few
more to hear from!” (sent in December)

I know two more Ivy Scholars deferred early action round this year who were admitted regular decision, so that brings our acceptances up to at least six this year.

Hi I just came across this thread, and I’m considering applying for the Ivy Scholars Program
Does admission to this program compromise you to attend? Do they also select alternate candidates?
Thanks!

Hi. My son (a sophomore) is applying to this program for the early decision. Can those of you who made it in the years before (congrats on that, by the way) give any advice on what sort of essay to write. He wrote one but since he has not done anything of major leadership value, I am wondering how it will affect him. I am sure all they will look at in rising juniors is the essay and the recommendation letters. PLEASE help with advice. He is sending his app in next week, when his latest transcript comes in. Thank you so… much.

im not sure about the alt candidates issue but i think you should still apply nontheless

as for the essays, speak for your self and show your personality. try to maximize your strengths. also it’s a good idea to add a little bit of humor too, but this is just an icing on the cake. im not sure about the leadership activities, but i do know that your son’s admission will not be leveraged upon how much leadership activities he was involved with. best of luck!

Dear juhztinleeeeeee (oops I may be missing an “e”):

Thanks for your advice and kind words. I know my son has put in his best effort. After that, Baba ki marjee (God willing) and wish for the best.

Thanks!

Hi I’m extremely interested in applying to this program
do any of the past ivy scholars know what academic level is required to go?
what is the average GPA and SAT scores of the ivy scholars?
i know it isn’t as stressed as much as recs. and personal statements but just wondering…

Hey!
There are no official averages. Academic excellence is important, but this is obviously just one piece of the puzzle. For reference, I didn’t have a 4.00 (obviously I still don’t but this is largely besides the point). I had a great but not exceptional (for CC) PSAT score, with no other tests to my name. I didn’t really talk about grades with anyone at the program, but based on the colleges our last crop of kids is getting accepted to, all of kids were very strong students.

My only advice would be that if you don’t apply, you can’t get in!

Hello people,

So would it be better to apply late in the early decision period or early in the regular decision period?

I’m wondering the same thing as entebbe, also are the admissions rolling?

Does anyone know if more students apply in the early round or in the regular round. I’m guessing if less students apply in the early round, then the more chances of getting accepted.

Communistic Bumpity Bump

Shamelesly Bumping this Again

Does anyone know how many internationals apply each years? Is it hard for them to get accepted?

uhh no idea sorry
does anybody know what they want to hear in the essays? ;)
