Didn’t realize that there was an athletic recruit forum, so I’ll copy/paste what I posted from another forum onto here:
I have a quick question regards to college sports for the Ivies: can I still possibly be recruited or receive a “likely letter” if I contact the coaches right now (hypothetically assuming that they’ll be interested in me once we start conversing)? My AI is well above the average so no problem there. I’m assuming that I’m probably going to have to email the Ivy coaches first, but what usually happens next for those who have went through this process? I’m currently a senior who applied already so I don’t know if that will make a difference or not… Thanks.
Unlikely that it will help much at this late date. There are really no opportunities for the coaches to see you play. The exception would be if you have some standout credentials (eg National Camp invites) that might carry some weight (but then you likely would already have been recruited).
Best bet would be to wait for acceptances to roll in and then ask the coach about walk on tryout / summer training programs.
(edited because I forgot that the sport was in the title)
@peanutbutteryay, you’re a senior with a RD application in at an Ivy and want to know if you could become a supported soccer recruit at this stage of the game. I’d say it’s very unlikely. Coach has been communicating and working with his recruits or their club coaches for the past year and a half or longer.
I guess it’s possible if your abilities are so well-known that a coach would get your email and say, “holy cow! I had no idea she was still available!” Can’t hurt to fire off an email, I suppose.
