Ivy South Football

Now that we are over halfway through the season, lets imagine for a moment that $$ is not an issue and we have a conference of the best Southern schools having a blast playing each other and not getting killed and demoralized by the Alabamas and Florida States of the world.

How much better would an Ivy South be for fans and especially players who would have a chance to compete on a level field and have a shot at winning seasons. Duke, Wake, Vandy fans please speak out.

Ivy South

Georgetown
Navy
William & Mary
Duke
Wake Forest
Davidson
Vanderbilt
Rice

Maybe add Tulane and Richmond for 10 teams.

Winner plays against Ivy champ in DC in the Brain Bowl.

Any thoughts??

Are Maryland and DC in the South?

Duke, Wake and Vandy football players pay the price for our athletic departments’ basketball habits.

This has been brought up a number of times. It has merit of course, but as you imply it will never happen.

Didn’t Vanderbilt, Rice, or Duke once try this?

Vanderbilt could probably easily beat any “Southern Ivy” and any Ivy League school. After they all they are in the SEC, a conference that has won the last 4 national championships.

I was told that ivy doesn’t grow south of the Mason-Dixon line, or to the west of Pennsylvania.

Greybeard - last I looked Chicago is west of Pennsylvania, and Wrigley Field is famous for its ivy covered outfield walls. Or were you just trying to be clever about the location of the Ivy League schools? Very subtle.

Is Kudzu a kind of ivy? It could be called the Kudzu League.

^^^You thought that was subtle? :-)

Greybeard - we have plenty of ivy (not kudzu) in our yard in Charlotte, NC.

The funny thing is that, if you had to rank the athletic leagues, the Ivy League is the bottom of the barrel.

Ah but for the truly important sports, like fencing and rowing, we represent!

I just feel for the students and players. Its got to be tough to study at that level and then go out and play against NFL prospects. I like a fair fight and would much rather see these schools play each other than be sacrificed on the altar of money, tradition, and pride every Saturday.
