Ivy Wise and Solomon Admissions - college counseling firms

Any views or thoughts on the above two college counseling firms? These firms are not cheap and require you to buy their whole package up front. Tough to commit to the whole package without a lot of due diligence.

This comes up regularly. Do a search using key words like private consultants or private college advisors.
Ivy Wise is super expensive. They probably won’t even take your child if he/she doesn’t already have what it takes to get in. If they do, then it’s probably questionable that the student needs the help of an expensive company. My opinion is that those firms are best for people with a LOT of disposable income who don’t have the time or inclination to do the work. If you have the money and your child will respond better to others than to you, go for it.

IMO, you are better spending money on someone local who you may hear of on a parent’s forum on facebook or similar. That will probably cost under $5k, and if you are looking for guidance, a kick up your kid’s backside, and general application help, I think that is money better spent.

I have consulted with Dan Lee who is the co-founder of solomon admissions and I was not too pleased with my experience. I was told up front about their prices and asked how i planned on paying their fees before even explaining my child’s backhround. I believe many of these companies won’t be of much help outside of the cold hard stats your child has and essay writing… like the above poster said they will most likely take your child only if he/she has what it takes to get in without their help.
