iWork verses Microsoft Office

Has anyone Used iWork in college instead of using Microsoft Office? I'm wondering if anyone has had any issues in using iWork instead. I hate Microsoft office on my mac.

I use iWork quite a bit for writing mostly. Pages is a greatly superior application compared to Word for Mac in my opinion. Its very fluid and feels right at home in Mac OS X. Keynote can have some slight formatting issues when converting to ppt files. Some transitions or styles aren’t made for both applications so it can sometimes create an issue. The real difference would be numbers vs excel. I’ve heard numerous accounts of numbers just not having the extra features and overall ability that excel has, thus rarely getting used by professionals or students for that matter. If you just do basic essays and the occasional powerpoint presentation with iWork, you’ll love it. I know I do. The more you use it though, the more you’ll realize why Office is the standard and is sometimes easier to work with when sending and receiving those important school documents.

Okay thank you! Yeah that’s just one of the issues I foresee having a professor and emailing them an essay and they are unable to open it. I will definitely think about it. Thanks again!

You can save iWork files in DOC format, so I wouldn’t worry about any compatibility issues. While Office is more feature-rich, iWork is very streamlined. In addition, it’s much more stable than Office in my opinion.

Use PDF for emailing anything you’re concerned about formatting with.
