As a completely random light hearted thread, which of the above is the brand of choice for preppy college kids these days? Back in the early '80s when I was in college it was Polo more than Izod. Thanks for your responses and good luck to all :)

I posted a "What not to wear" thread a while back, and the general consensus was that Polo is WAY more acceptable than Izod... whoops. I've got a closet full of Izod (purchased at Ross!). I reeeeeeeeeeally hope that'll work at Vandy!

Mom,
I think what you meant to ask was Polo or Lacoste. The alligator shirts were once under the Izod label, but now back the original Lacoste, and Izod is no longer a "prestige" brand.

In any case, either one goes!

Thx Vandygirl, my bad! :)

Wait, really? Izod is okay?!?!

Random t-shirts here and I may go to Vandy, still haven't decided.

The random t-shirt look is also my son's style, so if you go, you will not be alone. Maybe the two of you can start a club.

haha I looked at the prices of all the brands in the "what not to wear" thread and they're all like $200 pants and $80 shirts...so dressing myself may be expensive :)

I, personally, don't know what brand clothes I wear. I match, I dress nice, sometimes I wear T-shirts, I never spend $100 on jeans.

I'm going to Vandy : )

Lauren, midmo's son, goodschoolhopefully (if you decide to go!) let's get going with that club! I say we get T-shirts!

I wear Polo "style" shirts a lot, and I wear t-shirts from my various clubs and school things a lot too. But I don't actually wear Polo or Lacoste brand things.

well what are you planning to wear to Open House?

a t-shirt and shorts - first two out of my bag!
I would not have noticed who was wearing what until I read this thread, although I still may not notice...

I'd have to give it to Polo because ralph lauren goes beyond just the polo shirt. He is a couturier and is internationally renowned. Izod is more department store. Even if you bring Lacoste into the picture I still give it to Ralph becaue lacoste does not go farther than pret-a-porter (ready to wear) while as I mentioned Ralph makes couture.

Lacoste clothes aren't as popular as Polo clothes here, not to mention that I've never seen anything other than a Lacoste shirt, whereas Polo makes great shorts/pants/polos/dresses.

^ That's because shirts are $20 more, pants are $40 more etc. Also Polo is always on sale at major departments stores, so that's another reason it's more commonly seen. So Lacoste > Polo By Far.

Even internationally (say France), Polo is a still a middle of the road brand ROFL. Lacoste on the other hand is nationally recognized.

Man, I just embarrassed myself after laughing at your post in the library. I don't mean to be incredibly rude here, but if you're buying clothes because of how much they cost and their "national recognition", at least don't talk about it, it points towards what some people call "new money" or "classlessness", even in the designer-centric world of New York et Paris. Maybe the real reason you see a lot of Polo clothes here is because of the great quality, I think at least a small majority of Vanderbilt students might just be able to afford to buy whatever they want.

^ lol your post sounds like I hit a nerve. hhaahaaahaha

lmao @Maybe the real reason you see a lot of Polo clothes here is because of the great quality

what are some popular brands for guys other than polo and lacoste

abercrombie? hollister? armani exchange? diesel? banana republic? GAP!!!!?

I hold on everything accept A.E.
BTW J.CREW is though greatly admired brand. Very Classy, yet "Serious" vibe to clothing. Of course it cost and eye and a leg.

Oh noes new monies??

This thread is ridiculous.
