Good luck to all of you, it’s going to be quite a long road ahead of us, but I’m sure it won’t be as stressful if we can walk down it with company.

It may be a bit early to answer some of those questions. My community college had two JKC scholars last year, so I’ll be sure to get in touch with them and share some insider tips on the whole process. I don’t know if the essay prompts change year to year, but I can also get last year’s prompts if that helps!

I’m applying to the scholarship this year. I’ll share my stats when the actual scholarship application opens.

Hey Everyone. I can’t wait to meet everyone on the forum who is applying this year. I have browsed past forums…Hopefully we have some past recipients join the conversation as well!

All concerns, venting, and suggestions can be directed here :))

Thankyou @AGoodFloridian for opening this thread up. I was a semifinalist last year and I’m re-applying this year. Good luck guys!!

This is so exciting!
I can’t wait to compete with you guys. I am sure you are all wonderful students.

@elhanhzos Definitely! How are you all doing with your applications? We got a little over a month left.
I’m still drafting my essays, but I’ve fortunately secured the recommendation letters. Is there a lot of coverage of the JKC scholarship at your community colleges?

I finished with the Narrative Essay and secured one of the recommendation letters. I’m still waiting for the other professor to finish with the recommendation form. Also, I have to finish with other parts of the application like Why I constructed the list of the universities I want to transfer to. Other than that everything seems to be going great.
To answer your question about the coverage of JKC scholarship at my community college, I would say it is non-existence, no one knows about it except a few faculty members. I’ll keep you guys updated.
Wish you all good luck.

It sounds like you’re a great candidate for the JKC scholarship, @mohamedali0923 ! From what I’ve noticed the Foundation appreciates achieving students who have been through difficult ordeals in their lives yet still persevered with strong grades and community involvement. One of last year’s winners at my college is a full time mother, student, employee. Heavily involved on campus, honors student… Doing this and doing that- all while keeping a 4.0 GPA. Remarkable person on all accounts.

It’s strange your CC doesn’t promote the scholarship too much… Mine does it to a certain extent, especially towards the Honor’s students. The college has a seminar on it every year.

As I said before, I am very excited for this scholarship. I wish good luck to all of you!

My college doesn’t not promote this Scholarship but I made sure to pass the voice, I really hope that if not me, a student from my community college will be one of the recipients of this scholarship.

Just went through some of last year’s threads and oh boy did they have it rough! Their decisions took longer than expected to come out so there were about 80 pages of anxiety, frustration, motivation… There were a lot more people on that thread though.

Less than two weeks for the deadline wish you good luck!

We had two previous scholars stop by today to give a workshop about the scholarship. The biggest piece of advice they gave is to have plenty of trusted people to look over your essays. They stressed that you shouldn’t have all of them reviewing the essays together, but instead one after the other. The idea is to polish it as much as possible.

12 days until our ride starts!

Next week we have a representative from the Foundation giving a seminar on the scholarship too, so I’ll be sure to stop by here and tell y’all any important advice/tips s/he happens to have.

Wow, that sounds awesome, the cover for this scholarship at my C.C has been negligible.

I followed these slides https://www.saddleback.edu/uploads/honors/pdf/new_ut_ppt_16-17_niajelborz.pdf , they came in handy when I was writing the last essay.
