Jack Kent Cooke 2018-2019 Undergradate Transfer Scholarship

Welcome aboard @Spidi1123 ! What state are you from? We have a pretty great team here, tbh, I’m really looking forward to seeing what April and May bring for all of us.

@AGoodFloridian, I’m from Georgia. For sure… I’ve read some fantastic stats, the people here are incredible!!

@Spidi1123 Georgia! That’s awesome, what college do you go to? I’ll be visiting Georgia for a Summer Internship.

@norcalbusiness oh no, I get it. I actually can’t watch them anymore either for the same reason. X_X

@elhanhzos, Perimeter College. Congratulations on securing that internship!! Where will you be interning?

@Spidi1123 I’ll be at Georgia Tech. I feel excited because I’ve heard so many good things about their engineering program. Thank you!

@elhanhzos That’s such awesome news pal! I’m doing an internship over the summer too, we might have to take a weekend off if we get good news from the Foundation.
Fingers crossed for all of us, I’ve got a feeling we might hear something either next week or the one after!

Awesome!! Congrats @AGoodFloridian!!
@elhanhzos - Yes, they have a great program. I have many friends there, in the various engineering departments. They speak highly of the place.

@Spidi1123 I’m even more excited since it will be my first research experience outside of my college.

@AGoodFloridian Those are excellent news as well, but I’m not surprised. You’re a top student. Where will go for your internship?

@elhanhzos You’re gonna love it- it’s a lot of challenging work, but it’s that type of work where you LOVE coming in every day because you know you can always learn something new! My internship will be at Caltech- it’s heavy on the experimental facet of physics, which I really enjoy.

They don’t play around either lol… the day I accepted the internship offer, they already put me to work reading 3 research papers and doing calculations! :)) Our Summers are gonna be a blast <3

Well it’s been a great day. I received a very generous scholarship letter in the mail today from one of my top in state schools!! This calmed so much of my nerves since I am feeling… not so confident about JKC! LOL. Either way, I can not wait to find out!!! Rooting for all of us here!

@“TexasRosé_” Yeeeeees! That’s amazing news, congratulations <3 When you’re in the process of receiving decisions by really competitive colleges, it’s always nice to know that you have a very affordable option to go to if the other offers aren’t accessible.

@“TexasRosé_” CONGRATS! Thats amazing news! I have received one acceptance thus far, and but it did not come with an aid or scholarship package yet, thats still a few weeks out and its stressing me a bit. I too am not feeling overly confident about JKC. You’re lucky to have a solid option! Hopefully we hear something in the next week or two from the foundation.

Congrats!!! That is amazing, I know that you are bound for success wherever you go! My big school is giving me my results this week. I really hope I get them measly pennies LOL. I have just accepted the odds, and am at peace with the thought of having to drop out. I am rooting for everyone on this site, and will be squealing as everyone gets their acceptances! Y’all better be reporting your acceptances on here, just sayin’.

@FinishingTheApp I plan to post regardless of whether or not I am selected for the scholarship  I am waiting to hear from 9 schools and JKCF. The anxiety is HIGH right now, but I’m dealing.

Totally unrelated question, is there like a minimum hours of community service required for jkc? 100 hrs or smth?

@writerk123 The only strict requirements that the UT scholarship has its GPA cut-off (3.5) and the whole “never attended a 4-year university”. There’s a parental income “requirement” too, but that one isn’t as definitive- no two families are alike, etc.

There’s no minimum or maximum hours for community service. The Foundation understands that some students have great responsibilities to support families (kids, parents, etc). Some of these students work full time too, and don’t have the time for community service. If you have “free time”, invest it in something meaningful. But if your schedule is full to the brim with work, don’t jeopardize your academic performance but trying to fit something else in it.

Back on here after finally finishing up all my college applications! It’s been exhausting but it is now DONE, thank goodness.

Anyone else currently on spring break or the end of a term? Can’t believe April is already almost here!

@poppypup Niiice! The weight is lifted off the shoulders, it’s a great feeling.

Spring break ended a while ago for us.
Here’s hoping April’s kind to us!

@poppypup The application process was EXHAUSTING! Congrats! I wish i was on spring break, my school doesn’t take spring break till the week of April 9th!
