Jack Kent Cooke College Scholarship 2014-2015

Has anyone else applied for the Jack Kent Cooke College Scholarship? I have been reading last year's forums regarding this scholarship, and everyone has talked about a "phase two". Does anyone know if they are doing this this year, and if so, have any of y'all been notified of advancement?
PS: When can we expect final results?

I applied for it too and I emailed them and they said there is no phase 2 this year and that they’ll start sending decisions once they’re done reviewing everyone’s applications. I’m not sure when to expect final results :/

Does anyone know how many JKC applicants there are this year, and how many scholarships the foundation is offering?

@jayjaylez‌ the website said that they offer around 40. I’m wondering how many applicants there were as well.

Does anyone mind talking about their story or/and GPA, so we can all get an idea of the type of JKC applicants there are this year?

My stat is not very good comparing to others, but still hope

  • GPA: 4.0
  • Work for TRIO Program at Richland College as a Math Tutor for North Garland High school.
  • Work as college algebra tutor inside campus
  • Trying to enrich my volunteer experiences now, I want to reach to the point of 200 service hours till May 2015
    • Network of Community Ministries (7 hours/week): Interviewing the needy to see if they qualify for the borrowed money, listening to their story, providing them food, clothes, etc…
    • Richland College’s library: placing CDs, books,… on the bookshelves
    • Richland College’s Language Center (7 hours/week): helping students with their lab assignments, joining Subway Green Program provided by Language Center (cutting subway’s bag and knitting them into a purse) with the purpose of protecting the environment
    • Komen’s Race For the Cure: fundraising activities for breast cancer patient
  • These are some Awards, Honors, and Leadership position I’m holding:
    • STEM Scholar of DCCCD’s STEM Institute and receive STEM Institute’s scholarship. This is an organization designated by 7 DCCCD schools for students in STEM Field.
    • ID Competitive Scholar from which I receive scholarship.
    • Really active member and 3 Star Competitive Edge Member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
    • Mentor for ACE Program (Academic and Civic Engagement Program)

I’ve been waiting anxiously as well to hear back from them. The other day I logged onto the account and it said something along the lines of “results - deadline: January 9th” and had a random name next to it. I logged back in today and that had disappeared. Anyone heard anything regarding this?

@karen16994‌ I’m from Garland too! I go to Lakeview Centennial! My stats are:
-Varsity Tennis Captain and varsity player all four years
-NHS officer
-SkillsUSA vice pres
-student council member
-Sophomore year I was the sports editor for the school paper.
-4 star thespian
-several television production and theatre awards.
-3.95 unweighted, 4.24 weighted GPA
-1960 SAT
-11/529 class rank
-hundreds of community service hours from being very involved in church and NHS (mission trips, feeding homeless, nursing homes, etc)
I didn’t talk a lot about my struggles growing up; I mostly talked about my accomplishments despite coming from a low income family. Hope this helps!

@cornyandiknowit that’s impressive ^^ I think I stand no chance. Wish the best luck to you all.

@danrue15 I had the same thing, I wonder why it disappeared…

Hello everyone,
Does anyone know when they will announce the winners of the scholarship?
The anxiety is kicking in right about now

Mid-march.

Thank you!
How is everyone feeling?

hella stressed and hella hoping things work out

Definitely hoping  Can never count on uber-competitive ones like this, though, so we’ll just have to see. Fingers crossed for everyone

Has anyone heard back about this yet? I applied too and haven’t received an email or a phone call.

I have not heard back as well. I’m assuming they get back to us in the next week or two. Do you know if they will onlt call or email the applicants who are accepted or everyone who applied?

@jayjaylez I read on last year’s thread that recipients will receive a phone call; all others will receive an email. I don’t know if that’s true this year, however.

@lethallydia‌ Thanks for that info. The website also says that the winners wil be notified at the end of March, so I’m assuming we will have to wait for another week or two…

It should be next week; I was told mid-March. Recipients will receive a phone call, non-winners an email.
