Love it! Thanks.
Received notification and wasn’t selected. Good luck everyone else!
Just got mine too, wasn’t selected either. Sad, but good luck to the rest of you!
I just got the mail; it says that I was selected as a semifinalist for the Jack Kent Cooke College Scholarship Program!
My daughter just received an email that she is a semifinalist! So excited. I wonder how many semifinalist they pick?
Does anyone know how many semifinalist are chosen?
@zoomloom, I wish I knew.
I was selected as a semifinalist!! Super excited
@CourtneyThurston were you asked for additional information at any point in the process after you submitted your application? Does anyone know if we’ll be asked to submit midyear grades or anything like that?
Thanks! & congrats to all other semifinalists!!!
Someone on Questbridge facebook group said he called them and they said there were 600 out of 4400 applicants chosen as semi-finalist. Then 40 or 50 people will be finalists, and the finalist notifications will come in March.
Are any of y’all going to update your colleges about the semifinalist status? It says you should in the email but I don’t know if I should.
Don’t update any that aren’t need-blind. You don’t want those colleges thinking you have money when you don’t definitely have money yet.
There is no finalist stage that gets announced. From here it’s win or don’t win. Notifications will come out in late march (if it’s like last year). They call you if you’re a winner.
There’s no new application. You just get judged further from here. I believe I did email the JKCF foundation one update, but I’m not sure if it was considered, since there’s no formal update process.
@CourtneyThurston When I initially filled out my Jack Kent Cooke application, my ACT score was really low (29). Do you think it’s worth emailing or contacting them of my increased ACT score (32)?
Got the notification about 2 days ago. I’m a semifinalist! So excited.
I didn’t receive a notification yet whether selected or not. Hopefully, will get an answer soon.
@collegecurious29 Yes, email and update. An ACT of 32 would put you well within their middle 50, while a 29 would leave you in the bottom 25%. It’s a significant change, so you should let them know
(Again, not even sure email updates are considered, but it’s worth a try!)
@CourtneyThurston I’m a semi-finalist, and I’m both really excited and anxious right now. I just wanna ask that what part of the application do you think they pay more attention to? The stats (GPA/SAT)? The essays? or extra-curricular activites/ award/ how we give back to society? Or the financial struggles and background story? Because my app is strong in some parts and weak in others.
My stats are great. EC/ awards are decent. But I rushed through the essays because I practically knew of JKC 3 days before the app was due. I can’t remember what I wrote about. I think they still portray who I am, but I talked about positive things in all of them rather than difficulties. JKC will still know that I’m from a really low-income family from the financial documents my parents submitted, but I still feel that I missed the chance to write a compelling story about myself and my struggles… Do you think that would play against me?
Thank you very much
No one can say. Wait and see. Best of luck!
Are they still sending notifications or no? I still didn’t get anything! Anybody knows what’s up?
@CourtneyThurston It states in the semifinalist email that in the upcoming weeks JKCF may request additional information from us, our recommenders, or our parents. Do you know what information they might potentially ask for?
