It feels like people are getting conflicting information from calling. . .I called a while back and it felt like an answering service, not actually Jack Kent Cooke.

I think it’s safe to say everyone is freaking out with exception to the VERY FEW who have already gotten notification. I don’t think people should be reading too much into what people are getting from calling the hotline.

Also, another great thing to do is search “Jack Kent Cooke” in twitter. Only two people have mentioned that they received it there.

Good luck everyone!!

PS - Does anyone know of any other similar scholarships like Jack Kent Cooke?

its so odd, I had just assumed that they selected their winners, and then an email would go out to each of those on the list, almost automated in a way. but i suppose it’s a little more personal than that… lovely hand-typed emails to each winner. that’ll be my why-i’m-still-waiting theory ;)

To those of you who called JKC, what number did you use? Every time I call I get an automated message stating that the office is closed…Are you calling the actual Foundation, or the application company (aim.applyists.net or ISTS)?

Hi OutofMn. When I Twittered ‘Jack Kent Cooke’ I didn’t see anything specifying that it was the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship–did you? It could very well have been the Graduate, High School, or another scholarship (JKC sponsors several)…Or am I wrong?

I called 1-888-264-3062 which I found in the pdf Nominee Guidelines for 2011 (link found under the welcome tab of the online application). I called during business hours and a woman answered the phone after a few rings.

For at least the last five years, the JKC rep, or college president, from the school gets notified first. I wouldn’t suspect they e-mail the winners, especially on a Saturday. This may be a basic diversion to give the college a better chance at surprising the winners on Monday.

If you recently got a call asking you to come in to see the college president or other administration you have a great shot. But if you haven’t, that doesn’t mean anything, they may just hunt you down while you’re in class - so make sure you don’t skip!!

Thanks for the number, CABelle. I just spoke with someone at the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation and the individual I spoke with said that recipients will not be notified until the first week of May, which runs contrary to what is stated on the website, but there you have it. Apparently, however, some faculty representatives have been notified because SouthSeattle and Shreddr have received it.

I know that, with my college, the scholarship office has limited hours; they’re not open on Fridays and, on Thursdays, they’re only open until 1:30 PM–so its conceivable that if the faculty representative has been notified, she’s waiting until next week. I’m sure similar situations could apply with many other schools.

The full import of this, however, is that we’re all still in the running–we just have to wait on tenterhooks for who knows how many more days… Argh.

Now I’m going to be anxious in class hoping that my Dean, advisor, or whoever else will walk through the door… but yes, hope is good. Here’s to Monday I suppose! :)

It is officially May and I haven’t heard anything yet. Hopefully the latter messages are true regarding the “first few days of May.” But, either way, I just want an answer ASAP so I can start planning for my next two years of college! ANY answer, yes or no, would be beneficial at this point in the game.

Congratulations to those who actually got notified as well!

I got no email yet from anyone. I was told that the JCK rep from the school got the email notification and they threw together a surprise gathering for me the very next day, all very last minute. Then he told me that he’s going to let JCK know that they informed me, and so I should be getting a call from the foundation Monday for all the details.

Good luck to everyone. It’s crazy that they wait so long to tell people. Although I applied to a few schools when I applied for the scholarship, I’ve started scrambling last minute to apply to more because I never really thought I would get this. It’s been so overwhelming.

Shredd and SouthSeattle, Congrats! I’m so excited for you and I don’t even know you!

When were the advisors notified? Thursday? I’m beginning to give up hope too. My advisors haven’t hinted that they know anything, and we had the ceremony for the All-State Academic Team on Friday; I’m thinking that if I won, they would’ve announced it there. But there’s also another event next week…

I’m thinking my EFC may be a little high. Too bad my family and I cannot actually contribute that much.
As long as I get into my top-choice school and they offer good financial aid, I’m happy. I think my #1 offers a big big big scholarship for CCC transfers, so I’m hopeful. To those of you who have been accepted to your 4-years but are not sure you can afford it: have you gotten a FA package? Considering everyone’s impressive leadership and academics, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were very generous if you show the need. What about PTK scholarships? They should be on their knees begging you to attend their institution!

I really had a lot of hopes for this scholarship since it would have been the only way I could afford my dream school (Columbia). I am still waiting to hear from the financial aid office, but I do not think they would be able to help me that much.

It hurts to even say it, or write it, but I do not think I could attend my top choice. At the same time, I think it was for the better (maybe), since I accepted an offer from a public university that would pretty much pay me for attending there.

The “ivy” dream was nice while it lasted Anyway, I will do my best for undergrad and apply to Columbia for law/graduate school.

Don’t dash your hopes about Columbia! My friend got an outstanding fin aid package. . . He even had a bit of money saved up so he could technically have afforded to pay for some of his tuition. His received a full financial aid package. If I recall right it was about 3/4th grants too. . .covered everything, even living.

I was accepted to all my schools so far, and for the UC’s (berkeley, ucla, ucsd, ucirvine) it’ll cost me about 9 thousand a year…which i’m not too happy about. I did win a 10 thousand dollar scholarship that will make it around 6.5-7 a year…but ehh… I still haven’t received my financial aid package from Rice, but I’m not really hopeful. and i can’t live on campus there, which is a bummer.
i just wanted to be able to focus on school and not have to spread myself so thin between school and work. o well. time to take out more loans. :-/ at least the UC’s aren’t charging me TOO much.
