Did any of you apply?

I just checked the status of my application online and it has officially changed from "submitted" to "Under committee review". I'm so nervous!!

Hi!

Congrats on your nomination!

My application status says the same. I bet it will stay like that for a while as the foundation won’t announce the winners until late April-May. What city are you from?

Thanks!! You too!! I’m from So-Cal :)

Nice! I used to live in San Diego, but now am in New York. :)

Cool. I applied to UCSD Best of luck, and let me know what happens!

I applied and was nominated (as told by our Faculty Representative) but my application status only says: Submitted. Now, I am thinking twice, was I really nominated? :(

My app says “Under Committee Review” too…but they might be changing the statuses one at a time, as they actually review them.

Thanks PreMedaholic, best of luck to you as well!

tongyang, I wouldn’t worry about the application status, I am sure that if your CC representative said you are nominated, you ought to be nominated.

Do you guys also wanna post where you are all from, what your first choice schools are, and what your GPA is? Maybe major/career plans too? What you are doing right now? (college/work). Would be cool to “get to know” the other applicants. Honestly, I am not putting too much hope into this scholarship because of my relatively low GPA. My representative said that the JCKF usually awards people with at least 3.7. I think I was nominated mostly because they found my immigration story interesting, we shall see…

I guess I’ll share my info:

From: Russia
First choice school: Columbia University School of General Studies
GPA: 3.7 now, 3.64 at the time of application submission
Intended major: double major in bio and cultural anthropology
Career plans: Academia: research/teaching. Have an aspiration of creating an NGO that would help young people from underserved communities to get involved in science**
Current activities**: already earned 60 credits and not currently in college. Currently volunteering conducting cancer research at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NYC

Feel free to share yours!

Did anybody get an e-mail from a lady named Dana asking top college choice and a copy of an unofficial transcript?

Does anyone know when they will notify the recipients?

@yeaimkobe as per JKC website FAQ:

Early April 2013
Scholarship recipients notified

April 2013
Notification of award status is emailed to all applicants

Nope, but then again I filled out that part on my app and uploaded my unofficial transcript.

I am so nervous! Next week is the first week of April, but @mihir1612 let us know when you hear back from Dana.

Wait, mihir1612 what was the problem with your application that Dana told you? I may be on to something…

Because in my application I put the names of all 4 colleges I applied at, She was asking if I got into any of them and which college was my top choice. Also, she asked for a copy of my Unofficial Transcript and said if I am selected, they would ask for my Official Transcript. Am I the only one around here who got that e-mail?

I didn’t receive any email.

You could simply ask the JCKF if you were nominated by email JKCF at scholarships@ It should say Under Committee Review or Nominated… if I am not mistaken.

So I bet it will be a very sleepless week for this forum and understandingly so. Here is what I think is correct. If you won the award you will get a phone call this week. I am presuming that April fools day is a day they shy away from for phone calls. If you did not win the award you will get an email–probably next week–maybe late this week. The winners are notified before the losers (for lack of better words). The winners will probably have to submit over the phone, details for DC scholars weekend booking in August. Not to mention they will probably have a few quick questions that come before they tell you you won it. Good luck to everyone and remember, all 800 nominees deserve this award, so even if you do not get it you should know that you deserved it, and also know that if you do get it, someone else who didn’t deserved it too… Being nominated is something you can take with you wherever you go and is a great honor in itself. God Speed you all and I will keep up with the forum this week daily.

From what I understand, the scholarship informs your school. It is your school that then tells you if you won. At least that’s how my school does it.
