Has anyone heard anything yet?
Hey MJ! Haven’t heard back yet! I’m getting extremely nerve wracked and worried.
Care to post your stats on here?
Hey guys. I received some bad news today. I know a person from my school who got accepted on March 6th and another one accepted about a week ago. The director of the program said that if you haven’t received any emails yet, you passed the initial screening and you are still being considered. However, each day your chances are getting lower.
Also all of the decisions will be out by late March. They will notify all of the people who did not get in at once around March 31st.
wow
Victoria! Eeeeeeh – I’m hoping I hear some good news this coming week. There’s hope up until the end of the coming week. I am praying for some good results. WE SHALL SEE. Are your accepted friends college students or HS students? And by initial screening, what do you mean?
I emailed Mrs. Tracy Boddy about a week ago. She told me admissions occur on a rolling basis and the students who have not yet received a definite email are still being considered. I assume no emails are sent on the weekends, so for those of us who are waiting – there’s still a sliver of hope this coming week. Hang tight everyone…the deadly wait is almost over.
Zehra313, I mean that there is a group of students who were a definite “No”, and these students already received rejection letters. So if you haven’t heard anything from the program, you are still in the running.
BTW my accepted friends are high school students.
And one more thing: please, don’t worry so much. Life won’t stop if you don’t get in.
Remember, what is meant to happen will happen.
Victoria, that’s true.
If any of you hear anything further, please update us!
PS: Thanks Victoria for the information. (:
they never asked for our sat/act scores did they??? I don’t remember that…
They did not. That wasn’t a part of our application. Which were your 3 top research areas if you don’t mind me asking @bruhidektbh ?
Hey guys! I just wanted to let everyone know (as someone who applied last year) if you don’t hear back before the end of march don’t freak out. I didn’t hear back from them until April 9th last year. As I said in my past post, they had told me they were between me and two other people and it was the PI making the final decision. From how I understand it, some PI’s do interviews and some don’t, it varies by what they want. I’ve already accepted an offer from somewhere else for this summer (going to Stanford! Stoked.), but I was curious to see what was going on with the Jax apps anyway so I decided to pop back in. Someone asked for my stats from last year for a reference;
I was a Sophomore biochemistry major with a minor in German. Zero research experience at the time, but I’m also from a really small liberal arts school (~1200 students) without much opportunity for it. I had one really good recommendation and one that I would probably classify as decent (he didn’t know me very well on a personal level). I also am a chemistry tutor for the intro classes and serve effectively as a TA for the intro labs. I do have a passion for research that came out in some (I would say) pretty good personal statements. I’m considered an URM, something that I played up in my essays as well. I’m a first gen. college student, woman in the sciences, child of teen parents, etc. I want to go into aging research and I had a decent knowledge of what was happening in the field at the time that I could play off of in my essays. I plan to earn my Ph.D. in genetics and go into research for a few years before going into teaching at a research institution. I honestly don’t remember my GPA from last year, but I’ve currently got a 3.85 cumulative and 3.67 major for a reference.
If you can’t tell, I’m of the opinion that your story plays a pretty big role in your application. You need to make yourself stand out, and the only place to do that is your essays. There are plenty of applicants with an impressive research background and perfect GPA, but letting them get to know you is important.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you guys have any questions! Best of luck.
@Pheonix93 thank you so much for that ray of light!
It is hard to wait with no word. We appreciate your stopping by!
@Pheonix93
Thanks so much for your response! I’m becoming extremely impatient. Do you personally know of any students who got accepted beyond March?
I agree with @psywar – thanks so much for stopping by.
So I’m not sure what type of game Jax is trying to play, but all I know is that I want to get my letter. I have things that I’m willing to put aside for this and waiting for this letter is excruciating. I really hope we don’t find out about this too late.
No one received acceptance or rejection yet??!!! Beginning to pull my hair out
I contacted Mrs. Boddy again two days ago regarding the status of my application. She told me all applications are currently under review and that all decisions will be made by March 31st. I guess we all need to wait a little longer.
@TheNinja – What were your top three research areas that you opted for?
