Jackson Laboratory SSP (2016)

I’m applying to the SSP as a junior in high school this fall. Anyone else plan on applying, and any alumni have advice on the application process and the experience there?

It’s a gorgeous location! And Jackson Lab is an excellent research institution. I’m sorry that I don’t have any advice for you. Enjoy!

Yes! So excited, yet afraid

Alumni from Summer '16 here. I wish you guys luck on your applications, Maine is gorgeous!

@popper345 Did you do any research before the program?

Yes, I have done science fair all through high school, but a lot of the other students had no previous experience

@popper345 did you have any coding background?

No I’ve never coded before but my project didn’t include coding, precious coding experience isn’t nesscary either, but it helps if you want to do a bioinformatics project.

Applications are open now!

I’m also gonna apply. I did science fair and I have some coding background. Not sure if I’m gonna apply for bioinformatics though. What research fields are y’all applying for?

me too! I’m applying for physics/astrophysics. I think the program is awesome but it’s so painfully selective. Also, is anyone intimidated by the huge wordcount?

If the program is says must be submitted before February 2, 2017, does this mean it is due today?

Do they notify you when your recommendations have been submitted?

@Soccer1235 No, they say “The Summer Student Program application is due on or before February 2, 2017 at 11:59 pm EST (Eastern Standard Time).” on the website, so it is due by tommorow night

@yasdfjc Yeah I noticed phew hahaha and they send you an email but nothing on the portal

You guys scared me… It’s 3/3 for those within the US…

@stopthistrain are you talking about the jackson ssp? cause that is definitely due on February 2nd, 2017. The summer student program of like Colorado and stuff is due on 3/3

Just submitted my application! They only took 10 high school juniors last year so I don’t really have a chance, but I might as well try!

lol wrong program! haha

Application finished

Do you know if having previous accomplishments in research/Math (ex: Siemens Semifinals, JSHS, ISEF, AIME/USA(J)MO, USACO) influence the selection or do they play a more secondary role?
