Did anyone else get this? Is it really what it says it is, full ride if u add it onto regents basically? If it lists this scholarship on the preliminary award notification page along wiht regents, it means i got it right? Thx in advance for any info!

It covers EVERYTHING. Fully-loaded full free ride. Tuition, Room, Board, Books, Parking. All the Misc. fees the UCs charge. And with Regents added in, it's pretty tough to pass up.

How do you know if you got a scholarship?

Congratulations, Jacobs Scholar! Yes...Jacobs Scholarship is a full ride scholarship. Scholarship is offered to about 40-50 top engineering applicants hoping for a yield of 10 accepts. You must remain in engineering and maintain a 3.00 GPA to retain this scholarship. You will have opportunities (several times a year) to interact with benefactors of scholarship (Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs -- School was named after him and he founded Qualcomm) at nice dinner functions.

You can login to the decisions link that the Jacobs school sent you to view your decision, and then click on the "Continue" button below it, then view your preliminary financial aid awards. It shows you the financial awards that you have recieved thus far.

The Jacobs Engineering Scholarship is worth $19,409 per year.

They also adjust your $ award upward if tuition/fees go up in subsequent years...unlike Regents/Chancellors scholarships... ;-)

I think it might be more than $19,409. I thought it was pegged to the published estimate for the full cost of going to UCSD which for the current year, I think, is $20,745. As the published "full cost" goes up, the scholarship increases too.

You gotta love Irwin Jacobs.

You are correct, joemama...Wonderful scholarship!

congrats!!!

I looked up this scholarship online, but I couldn't find anything about it. Anyone have a website that talks about it?

I have never seen a description on-line, but I know a student that was awarded the scholarship.

WOOHOO! Congrats! I got it too! Yeah its 19,409 (+2,000 Regents) this year. You have to keep a 3.5 for all 4 years. I havn't been able to find out anything online about it either, except that it is funded by Jacobs... its not very publicized.

I'm really happy and I don't think I'll pass this up.. Citeruid what college @ SD are you in?

You have to maintain a 3.0, not a 3.5 gpa.

However, most in the program are at 3.5.

You are incorrect. I am looking at the letter right now, and it says that you must maintain a 3.5 GPA.

Maybe they changed it?

ckpcw, congrats!

There isn't anything written on the Jacobs Scholarship.

This was the scholarship benefits and restrictions offered in March 2003 -- maintaining a GPA of greater than 3.0:

"Our goal is to provide an award that covers your estimated costs to attend UCSD. Your Jacobs award, combined with your Regents award, will provide you with a four-year scholarship currently estimated at $72,240. This covers your registration fees, estimated room and board, and an allowance for books and supplies, transportation, health care and personal expenses. For 2003/2004, the award amount has been established at $18,060, which includes your Regents Honorarium of $5,000 and your Jacobs School Scholarship of $13,060. Of course, Jacobs School Scholars are required to be engineering majors and to maintain a GPA of greater than 3.0, whole completing 36 units per year as a full-ime student."

UCSD lowered the Regents scholarship from $5,000 to $2,000 per year -- going the UC-Berkeley route ($1,000 per year). UCLA current Regents scholarship is $5,500.

Does it say "Expected" to maintain. Or "Must" maintain?

Maybe they did change it.

BTW/ Congratulations!

Now that you mention it, it does say "expected." So maybe the goal is a 3.5, but they won't yank your money unless you slip under 3.0?

That's the way it was last year. Probably has not changed. Regents has a 3.0 requirement too.

Again, congratulations. Like my friend, you must be exceptional.

I've actually met the Jacobs before... I went snowboarding up in Salt Lake City with their daughter (shes our age, a senior in high school) once =)

Random fact trying to make myself sound cool

Is there a Jacobs Scholars Reception?
