Jacobs Engineering Scholarship

Yes, it is this friday the 7th

Im out of state and cant afford the 42000$ a year so i probably wont go. HOwever i got into Jacobs. Is there a chance i could get it????
3.97 UW GPA
1910 SAT
680 Math II C

They already sent out the info to the recipients. Are you a junior?

nope dang it guess im too late... University of Washington for me for engineering

ckpcw, if you go say hi to Eric-Scott T. -- current Jacobs Scholars will be attending to answer questions and getting free food ;-)

My friend, a current Jacobs scholar, will be there too. Food is great. Lots of top Professors. Great presentation.

What year is your friend? What's his/her first name if you don't mind posting it here?

How many Jacobs Scholars are there every year? Also, what do you do with external scholarship money if UCSD gives you a full ride?

UCSD picked the top 100 applicants, screened them, selected and extended the Jacobs Scholarships to 48. They hope to get a yield of 10 Jacobs Scholars per year. They get 8-12 depending on year. As for external scholarship money (i.e. National Merit, California Governor Scholarship, etc.) they can displace some of that full ride money into your pocket -- spend it for Summer school, a new computer, whatever...Just remember to save some to pay federal and state taxes. ;-(

Wow... The reception was awesome and a half.. I had a really good time talking to some current Jacobs Scholars and professors.. plus the food was good (I'd say UCSD has the free-food market pretty much cornered).

I had already pretty much decided, but now I've decided x2.. the Jacobs Scholar program is really amazing and has tons of cool benefits..
How did you guys like it?

You have chosen wisely.

Is it also for international

Don't know...since there is nothing written up about this scholarship. Can't find any information anywhere.

Did you get a chance to attend the first Bioengineering Quiz Bowl?

Hey..I didn't know about this schol......how do i know if I've got it?If I have'nt is there a chance I can get it in my 2nd year?my stats:

SAT1: 2140

GPA:well i did hs abroad but i'm assuming it would be minumum 3.3 (on a 4
scale)

SAT2: PHY:720,MATH:700

Does anyone know if this scholarship is need-based or only merit-based? Also, is it available to any engineering major or only to bioengineering majors? Thanks.

Merit-based.

Any engineering major.

You can't apply for this merit based scholarship. They pick top 100 engineer applicants and screen them down to 48 or less. Those 48 will then be offered scholarship. The yield on this is about 10 or less per year.

obmud01: I understand the selection process, but I was wondering if financial need and major were considerations in the top 100 applicants first selected...? According to Slorg, they are not. Is this correct?

Major is. Need is not.
