Jacob's School "We're Glad You Applied"

Is this some sort of sick joke? Email basically says "you're a great applicant, we're so glad you applied here. This is why our program is so awesome." then at the bottom, it says
"Please note that receipt of this email does not constitute or guarantee admission to UCSD or the Jacobs School."
Anyone else get this or have info about it?

I’m guessing you’re currently a senior in high school. I remember getting this when I applied two years ago. It doesnt mean much, just what it says. Good luck :)

): I didn’t get this email. That actually slightly worries me even though I know it probably shouldn’t.

Well, did you apply to the engineering school? It’s for the engineering school

Yeah, I applied to the engineering school.

My email might just be having problems though. An email from another school sent on March 1st just suddenly appeared…

Yes I got that email too.
I applied to the Jacobs School for Aerospace Engineering.

I received the e-mail today too X) I have only seen something like this before in the ucla threads,
the ‘likely letter’

I personally don’t believe it means much besides we aren’t on the very bottom. Maybe they base it off a GPA/SAT score cut off, who knows.
I applied to the Jacobs School as an Electrical Engineer.

Are any of you who have received these email messages what UCSD might consider under represented minorities?

(There is a recent thread on the UCSD forum about phone calls going out to under represented students.)

My son has received these emails and he isn’t an under represented minority. Just got another one today from the Jacobs School of Engineering.

I got both messages too, I am not URM

I am east asian and got it. Nuff said. The phone calls, on the other hand are for URMs. BTW, a couple days ago they sent out another email, this time talking about internships from the Jacob’s School.

I never got this email when I applied a year ago yet I was accepted. Trust me this email really doesn’t mean anything, I almost positive this is not a likely letter as I was told UCSD doesn’t do any of that. Good Luck with your admissions

For future years:
No, this email does not imply acceptance. I thought myself to be a pretty strong applicant, even prior to receiving the letter, yet was waitlisted. oh well

I never got that email and yet i was accepted yesterday

well, purplet1ger, we knew that NOT getting it doesn’t imply rejection, but we learned from musicremedy that GETTING it doesn’t imply acceptance. which is really a lame thing for UCSD to do imo

bahh you’re telling me. On the other hand, I didn’t receive the likely letter for UCLA engineering so maybe I’ll get in (hopefully).

i didn’t receive ucla engineering either ><

I didn’t get this email but got the one from UCLA. Weird how things work.
