Early Decision round, you?

@racheal52 me too~ I have completed my application. Just wait to see the result in mid-December! I heard this years the number of applicants nearly doubles… So it may be harder to get in. Where are you from by the way?

Around East Africa, since we’re applying in ED, it may well be much easier

@racheal52 I am from China~ Yeah and this year seems to be the first year that Jacobs open an ED program. Do you know other students applying in ED? I know 3 from China… I expect the competition not to be so harsh. In fact the very best students will not apply to Jacobs in ED, but R1 or R2 because of the bounding policy.

I know of only you - lol - plus the 3 Chinese you’ve just mentioned…I think few people apply in ED because they’re mostly still busy in school. I’m on gap year till Aug, what about you Stevenlyan?

@racheal52 I am in Grade 12. It is true that students are busy during the last year, but getting an admission early really brings ease to every applicants. So I think it’s worth trying. How many years of school do you have to complete before going to college in your country?

same as you, I think, 13 since kindergarden
so what will you do till August?

@racheal52 Finishing courses in the first place. After that I might start learning some German. And I guess in order to be better prepared for college we still have loads to do and learn. What majors are you interested in?

Did your early decision mail come like this?: This is to confirm that we have received your recommendations and scanned copies of your transcripts. We have now completed your application while waiting for certified copies (freshly stamped and signed) of your transcripts through regular mail. Please note that no decision will be issued until we have received certified copies of your transcripts.

You are in the Early Decision Round and will hear from us concerning the decision of the admission committee by mid-December unless we have not received your certified copies in the meantime.

I thought the transcript was sent with the common application counselor part

BCCB, I think you want Engineering. Is that right?

@racheal52 I used Jacobs’ own system, so the transcript was sent by regular mail. They informed me like this: “This is to confirm that I have checked your SAT scores online. Your application is complete for our Early Decision Round and you will hear from us concerning the decision of the admissions committee by mid December.” As for the Major, I prefer GEM and ESS actually :)

Good for you, still can’t believe you applied through the online system. Seems you did your sat in June, knowing your score an application early

@racheal52 Hi I send an email to you. Do you receive that?

Saw it, thanks :)

Would applying under the Round I admissions schedule conflict with the early action or early decision policies of other universities?

No, Jacobs has ED option, and Round I is another thing.

The future plans section of the Common app for jacobs university states the following:

Decision Early Decision Deadline: 11/01/12
Decision Early Action Deadline: 12/01/12
Decision Early Action II Deadline: 02/01/13
Decision Rolling Admission Deadline: 06/01/13

Their naming Round I as Early action is slightly scaring me. Does someone know the reason for this?

I think the reason is that American colleges do not have rounds, but have early decision/early action/regular decision.
Since Round I is non-binding and you don’t have to sign an ED agreement, applying to Jacobs in Round I will not conflict with ED of another college.

Probably because that’s the format for reporting application deadlines under Common App. Why does that terminology scare you?

Well, I guess there could be an issue with single-choice early action schools. If you are also applying SCEA somewhere, I recommend you check with the SCEA school ahead of time but I don’t think they would mind. Jacobs itself cautions applicants not to wait until the final application deadline…
