Got the James Dickson Carr for $10,000 per year today -- SAT - 2260 GPA 3.96 UW about top 7% in my class out of state.

I also got an additional $6,000, but only for Newark. Does anyone know anything about Newark? I see that it's ranked lower than NB, but it's still Tier 1. And it's pretty diverse from what I see on collegeboard.com.

Does anyone go there and have any inside information?

The Newark campus is very urban and borders some rough areas of Newark. I would not want to live there. (I earned my MBA part-time at night at Rutgers-Newark 22 years ago.)

also, from what i hear, the quality of the classes is a lot better on the new brunswick campus. and if you ever want to switch majors, you’ll have a lot more options than in newark.

Hi I also received the Dickson Carr scholarship but I got the scholarships for Newark and Camden, is there anyway they can be transferred over to New Brunswick?

I was accepted into the School of Engineering. I have decent stats and dire need for aid, and I didnt get the JDC scholarship I could’ve sworn I meet all of the qualifications: I’m Af. Am., I have a 3.81 UW, 4.00 W, Rank: 3/340, 1610/2400 SAT and loads of AP’s, Honors and EC’s. My mom is single, disabled and nonworking. Not only that my brother is Autistic, and care for autistic children in my state is financial murder on our family. It is soo hard trying to make it, and it seems like Rutgers is turning their heads on my situation. They are hardly giving me anything through the University or from FAFSA. What can I do to get more money from them; I really want to go to RU :'(

yeah i think your SAT score is too low, consider applying to scholarships through your local community or high school. rutgers pretty much only offers merit scholarships, need-based money generally comes from FAFSA. also, did you apply for EOF? this program is geared toward people who require lots of financial aid.

Yes, unfortunately. The thing is though, my friend attends Rutgers now, she went to my high school, and got 1580/2400 and got 7500/y from JDC. I dont know what makes my case different. I applied early too.

What year did your friend get in? Each year its getting harder to get scholarship as more students with really good stats are staying in state and going to Rutgers to save money.

state schools would more likely give priority to in-state students, since their families pay the taxes that support the university.

but that’s really odd that your friend got it and you didn’t. they must have decreased the amount of jdc’s they give out, or increased the expectations.

My guidance counselor told me it’s proper etiquette to email all the colleges I received scholarships from and inform them I wouldn’t be attending.

So every one of the colleges I wrote to responded with something like, “Thank you for letting us know. Good luck to you in the future.”

Except for Rutgers, who responded, “As requested, we have removed you from our list of accepted students.” Cold.

Kind of wipes away any doubts I had about not going there.
