Heard about this facebook group on TMZ a month ago. They and people commenting on the website weren’t so Bruin-friendly.

Don’t like the choice either, but I admit he’s one of the better speakers in the recent past which isn’t really a compliment since speaker choice has been pretty bad at UCLA. Clinton would’ve broken the streak. That certainly would bring us on par with other top U’s.

I don’t think Franco can relate to the audience considering that most of us are not actors and he’s a nontraditional student. If we’re going the actor route, I would prefer a more established celebrity.

If you really think that James Franco is not going to be able to relate to UCLA students, look up Will Ferrell as the Harvard Graduation speaker. Hopefully Franco will be half as funny.

Bunch of stuck-up self-entitled brats in that group. At least they have a speaker… wasn’t it the class president for last year? And cookie monster 2005??? Kareem some year in between???

I am curious as to why UCLA doesn’t seem to be able to draw a crowd of comparable speakers (except for Bill Clinton… and that fell through). Is it because it doesn’t have the funds to pay prominent figures? Or are the so-called prominent figures only interested in speaking at marquee places like Harvard? I know that sometimes, the speakers are alumni of the school, but still…

I wonder the same…It’s not like UCLA is unknown or in the middle of nowhere. If UC Merced is able get the First Lady…

It also seems to be more of a widespread issue. Performers at Bruin Bash are generally subpar. It’s Hollywood and that’s the best entertainment they could come up with? Most sneak peaks aren’t that good and never go on to be big.
