James Hall

The RAP for my daughter’s major is in James Hall. Until she found this out, she was thinking Orchard Hill would be a good fit. Has anyone lived at James? SW was the one dorm she was steering clear of…

James Hall is a low rise, correct? What little I know, in SW, the low rise bldgs. are supposed to be less wild than the towers. Maybe others can chime in?

Have they posted the RAPs for 2017 yet? When I look online I only see the 2016 programs.

I don’t think they’ve posted them but we were told this info on admitted student day last weekend.

SW is full of kids who aren’t wild partiers. D, a sophomore and not a party animal, lives in a low rise in SW; during first semester there were a couple of guys on the floor who were loud and rowdy. It was a great relief to D and everyone else on the floor, who had repeatedly complained about the noise, when they moved elsewhere at the end of the semester. D ended up in Southwest her freshman year because that’s where the RAP she wanted was located. Joining that RAP was the best thing she could have done for herself. Don’t let the location scare your D away from a RAP she wants.

SW is really not as crazy as some may think. Yes each floor has one or two loud rooms, but even then the floors are relatively quiet. SW is definitely the best place to live if you are even a tiny bit social. If you are the type of person who does not care for human interaction go to northeast. Central dorms are not very great, I would definitely avoid.

Thank you for responding! My daughter seems stubbornly again SW even though for her major - and the fact that she’ll be in marching band - seems her best bet.
