James Madison and George Mason

I appreciate all the help I've gotten from this site for my college search over the past year, so now I'm enlisting your help for my sister who's very lost in the college search process. She's going to be a senior, and is looking at James Madison, University of Hartford, and George Mason. I wonder if anyone knows anything about these schools. She wants to go into Illustration or Art History. I don't really know much about the art programs at these schools, so any input on that, or other general information is very much appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Also, she's looking at schools from Maine to Virginia only. Does anyone have any suggestions for schools in this area strong in Art History that are at a similar level (in terms of admitted students' SATs and GPA) to James Madison, Hartford and George Mason?

I can't comment about specific programs, but I would say that James Madison is a solid notch above George Mason. GMU has a reputation as a commuter school, as many of the students come from northern va. I'd say JMU's campus is much nicer than GMU's. GMU is much closer to DC, if that's worth anything.

Again knowing nothing about specific programs, I would recommend taking a look at what Christopher Newport University has to offer. Everything very new, and I've only heard positive things.

I just got back from a visit at Goerge Mason, I highly encourage your sister to apply. It was a beautiful school, and with 26000 students, you can't even tell its a commuter school. Their arts department is more than a solid notch above jmu. They have one awesome fine arts department.
