James Madison or College of Charleston?

I cannot seem to decide between these two schools which to attend. I would appreciate your insight and advice. If you want more information on my major/scholarships? etc. please ask. But right now i just need some insight.

Very good schools if you apply yourself and don’t party. Both have a significant party reputation. Be careful. CoC is on the beach, so to speak, in gorgeous City of Charleston. JMU is inland in the stunning Shenandoah Valley. Horse country. World’s apart. CoC is a basketball only school. JMU is a national powerhouse in football Div IAA, now called FCS. They have been national champions. JMU is larger than CoC I believe. Its a flip of the coin, depending on your personal interests and tastes. Both have huge school spirit and fraternities/sororities, ROTC, clubs, etc. JMU is bit more Jock oriented with such big sports going on. But there are fine programs at both schools. Just stay away from the party animals and you will be fine.

What is your major rwsjyiy? Are you in state for either? Is cost a consideration? ghostbuster has given you some great insight. JMU is closer to DC and therefore offers its undergrads a lot of intership possibilities in many fields. Its business and music programs are very well regarded. Have you visited either?

CofC doesn’t really have a campus, but JMU, even with HWY 81 dividing part of it, has a more traditional campus for its students. Kids at JMU are generally very happy and like their school a great deal. They do have a rep for being a great party school, but I don’t think that it interferes with their students having the chance at getting a good education. I think the M/F ratio would be much more equitable at JMU than at CofC, but depending on your viewpoint, the difference might not be a negative. That being said, CofC is also a terrific choice.

i plan to major in chemistry and have received scholarships that make the costs even. i am a female and the ratio doesnt bother me i just do not like the surroundings of jmu

College of Charleston. I got into both as well. Cofc is prettier, has better looking people, and in a better town.

I visited CofC a couple weeks ago (and have been there for their CofC Math Competition), and I loved the atmosphere with the brick sidewalks and shops in Charleston. I don’t know much about JMU, but CofC is in a beautiful location and had nice facilities (minus the football). :]

I plan on going to CofC next year. What I really like about CofC is the city itself. Charleston is beautiful and I’ve always had dreams of living in Charleston. The atmospere is great and it’s 70% girls - how can you go wrong?
