Hello! I am very interested in eventually becoming a nurse practitioner! I hear that the JMU nursing program is extremely competitive (seems like every other girl on the JMU 2024 facebook wants to be a nurse). Anyways, I was wondering if I should even bother trying to compete and get in the program or if I should just major in health sciences and apply to ABSN programs or direct entry MSN programs for non-nurses after college. Also, if anyone wants to share their experience in the JMU nursing program (how are the classes, how stressful is it, and what to expect).
If nursing is really what you want to do, I don’t think you have anything to lose by applying for the nursing program. If you don’t get in, you’ll have to weigh your options such as ABSN program (which is extra time and cost) or transferring to another less competitive nursing program.
