Has anyone waitlisted at JMU received a call and been offered admissions yet ???

My daughter, who attends JMU, just heard that a few people from her high school got a call from JMU this week about getting off the waitlist.

I can’t hurt to call and restate your interest.

Good luck!!

I am wondering the exact same thing! JMU is my absolute favorite and top number one choice and I am waitlisted as well. This past week I really have thought of nothing else other than that freaking phone call!! I have sent them a letter knowing how much I want to go. And I really never get any freaked out about much in life but I love JMU so much and I feel I am soo close to getting in but the moment of getting a call is just NOT happening! :[ I have a feeling they are under capacity by alot right now as they have already started calling people which is something they didnt do untill June of last year, Im pretty sure. My dad works at William and Mary; they only needed 18 people last year but this year they are missing over 200. PLUS, I hope this helps, JMU had a riot right at perspective student orientation time, so that might have altered some people’s decisions.

As of right now, I am enrolled at GMU but I just know JMU is the place for me. JMU has an AWESOME marching band, skiing nearby, nearly everyone stays on campus on the weekends, they have other cool clubs, they have an engineering program, the student spirit is INTENSE, and the campus is beautiful. GAH I just cant get over this!!! I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Who knows, maybe everyone will get accepted!! :)

jhs, my S was called (actually he was emailed and told to call the admissions officer) on May 2 last year to receive the news that he had been admitted off the waitlist.

Oh okay. I just have no idea when that will happen for me if it happens at all…

fyi - our son was accepted off the waitlist last week…so I’m not sure if this make you feel any better.

Congrat’s…to your son !!! Did he accept ?? My son is hoping he is offered the same opportunity !!!

Anyone have any other information ???

jhs and MJP, have you called admissions to find out why you weren’t admitted? My S did this last year and they were very helpful. Within a day or two of his waitlist decision, one of his teachers had also sent a beautiful letter about him. Admissions informed him of this when he called about his decision.

I might just call them… However, my dad warned that calling them would just be hounding them. I know Ive let them know I am a diehard JMU Duke at hear! I sent them a personal letter about why they should accept me, sent my latest report card- got a 4.2 for quarter 3, and made them a stained glass that says I Love JMU. It’s 4:41… aha I dont know!!

Blueshoe, my son has letters in his file from teachers, family, and JMU Alumni. My daughter is also a recent JMU graduate and now Alumni and submitted a letter to his admissions councilor. I think being from the North and being a male applicant makes things more difficult based on the school demographics and requirements. His overall stats were in the average range of what they require, but he will be full pay which I think in this economy might help ?? Based on his experience during his sisters attendance, JMU has always been his number one. On a positive note he has been admitted and deposited to another great school but is less excited about attending.

jhs8765…good luck I hope you gain acceptance !!! I hope the stained glass cup works !!

^^I really hope your S and you jhs hear from JMU soon with good news. I know how hard it is to wait. My S was very disappointed last year when he was waitlisted and filled with relief and excitement when he was admitted because he had not been accepted anywhere. A year later, it still stings a little bit for me. However, he had a great first year experience at JMU and has put the turmoil of senior year behind him. I found CC so I could help my younger child avoid the experiences of her brother, and whenever I can, I like to pass on the knowledge I’ve gained. Good luck to you both!

Aww thanks for helping! Yes… it is VERY hard. All I could think about at school today was JMU; I have been dreaming of going there since I was ten!! I payed a deposit for GMU already. What is most hard is not knowing any information

Thanks for the wishes!

Call - it won’t hurt your chances and you may get some information you can use. My D just finished her sophomore year there and I have always found everyone extremely helpful no matter what questions I had.

My D kept calling and showing interest, and eventually got in! So, it does not hurt to call or e-mail them to show your true desire to attend. My D wanted it more than anything and kept pushing and it worked for her, so you should try the same!

Good Luck! I hope you hear back soon! Give it all you got, there is no harm in trying!

My son has written 4 letters to his local JMU Rep., he also has letters in his file from teachers, family, and JMU alumni. The local JMU host family for summer new student events called the local JMU admissions rep. to confirm how great a kid he is and how much he wants to attend. My daughter is also a recent JMU Alum who wrote a letter to the local rep. telling them how much he wants to attend. All of the correspondance was sent in duplicate to the JMU Head of Admissions.

Really…what else can the kid do to show his interest and commitment, it seems to me it already borders on the excessive. I told him he did a great job expressing his desire and interest to show JMU that their school is his first choice and he needs to let it go and move on because the decision it is out of his control. I also assured him that whatever the outcome that everything will work out for him if he stays postive and open minded.

Well… Its only been about 10 days since they started going to the waitlist. I remember a friend of mine got accepted off it last year in the beginning of June and their waitlist does say the majority of the waitlist decisions occur in June… I think that they are already calling people may mean they are down in numbers this year. But, I still HATE all of this waiting with no updates!!

Their website says most decisons come in June…

I just got accepted today!!! My dream came true!!! :] :]
I think the stained glass worked because my counselor took a picture of it as an attatchment to my email!!

Congratulations jhs!! I can feel your joy because I remember what it felt like last year for my S. Go Dukes!!!

Congrats, jhs. So happy when waitlists work in someone’s favor!
