James Scholar Program

<p>So, I'm a little confused. I thought you have to be interviewed for this to be considered for this. So I'm assuming that this email I got today is a mistake. I was wondering if anyone else got it as well. </p>

<p>Dear Taylor, Congratulations! After reviewing more than 1500 applications of students admitted to the College of Business, I am pleased to inform you that you have been designated as a member of the Class of 2015 James Scholar Honors Program for your freshman year in the College of Business at Illinois.</p>

<p>Your strong record of achievement places you in the top 15% of the students admitted to the College of Business. Being in this select group qualifies you for the College of Business James Scholar Honors Program. The competition for admission into the College of Business was stronger than ever this year. You have a right to be proud of being in a group of students who will enter one of the nation's premier business colleges with such an honor.</p>

<p>Named for one of the University's distinguished presidents, Edmund P. James, this program recognizes students of extraordinary ability and achievement.</p>

<p>As a James Scholar, you will have access to significant benefits including early registration privileges, extended use of library facilities, designation of James Scholar status on your transcript, and special programs only available to James Scholars.</p>

<p>As one of approximately 75 incoming James Scholar freshmen, you will:
. Enroll in the James Scholar honors sections of BUS 101, our ground-breaking introductory course, during the fall semester of the freshman year;
. Participate in the winter break job shadow experience organized by Business Career Services;
. Enroll in the James Scholar Deans' Honors Seminar taught by two deans of the College of Business with fellow James Scholars in the spring semester;
. Attend the Sleeman Leadership Seminar for James Scholars in the spring;
. Attend exclusive special events for James Scholars hosted by the College of Business.<br>
. Be eligible to apply for the James Scholar course and case competition with a trip to Brazil in May 2013. Scholarships are available for all students selected for the course and trip to help defray expenses.</p>

<p>So am I the only person is this predicament? I'm thinking about calling tomorrow to figure this out.</p>

<p>no need to call. james scholars and even university/chancellor’s scholars are chosen from application materials. no interview.</p>

I applied to U of I at the last minute kind of surprised by this but here they are:
5.2 GPA
26 ACT
All Honors & AP Classes
A few leadership clubs and 3 years of Track and Field</p>

<p>Do you guys know when the James Scholars Program sends out decisions for LAS? And, what are their requirements for acceptance into the program as an incoming freshman?</p>
