James Scholar Program

Hey everyone!
I just had a question about the James Scholar Program.
I recently received an email from UIUC that asked my family and I to attend a by invitation only meeting with the newly admitted students of the Business Undergraduate Program. I think this may be for James Scholar/Honors Program so I had some questions.

For the James Scholar Program, do the top 15% of students get into the program automatically, or are you admitted once you receive the required GPA.

Below is a link and some of the text about the program from the page... but its not all that clear.

"College of Business

James Scholar Program
Admission: The top 15% of the entering freshman class is invited to participate in the College of Business James Scholar Program as a James Scholar Nominee. These incoming students are notified of their eligibility in a letter from the College.

Continuing Students: Students are certified as James Scholars for the academic year if they have a 3.5 G.P.A. each semester and have completed at least one honors activity during that year. Students may nominate themselves for James Scholar status."

The email you received was probably not about the Honors program. It is for an event located in Chicago (I believe the building is right by Union Station if I am thinking correctly). To the best of my understanding, the event is to meet some of the College of Business administration, as well as other admitted business undergrads.

The James Scholar program is offered to top 15% of entering class in business and thereafter you have to maintain a 3.5 college GPA to stay in it (there is a James Scholar program for each college and each has its own admission criteria and level of GPA required to stay in). That invitation you received has nothing to do with James Scholars; it is a get together for persons already admitted to business. Instead, you will get a specific letter offering you admission into the James Scholar program if you qualify and that letter is not going to come until after all admissions decisions have been made (March 1).

thanks everyone!!!
